초등학교의 소수(素數)지도에 관한 논의

국문 초록

소수(素數, prime number)는 자연수의 곱셈적 구성요소이며 정수론의 핵심인 중요한 수학적 개념이다. 우리나라의 초등학교 교과서에서는 ‘소수’, ‘소인수분해’라는 용어는 직접적으로 사용하지 않는 반면, 외국의 경우에는 ‘소수(素數, prime number)’라는 용어를 직접적으로 언급하면서 지도하고 있는 경우가 많았다. 우리나라에서 ‘소수’라는 용어를 직접적으로 지도하지 않는 이유는 학습량 경감 및 ‘소수(小數)’라는 용어와의 혼동 가능성 때문으로 생각된다. 본 연구에서는 약수와 배수의 성취에 관한 동질집단인 두 학급을 대상으로 소수(素數) 개념을 배운 학급과 배우지않은 학급사이의 최대공약수, 최소공배수와 관련된 성취도를 비교하였다. 비교결과 소수(素數) 개념을 배운 학급의 성취도가 유의미하게 높았으며 소수 개념을 배우지 않은 학급의 경우 ‘더 이상 나누어지지 않는다’는 말의 모호함으로 인해 몇 가지 오류를 보이기도 하였다. 소수(素數)는 수학의 신비에 다가갈 수 있는 중요한 개념이다. 초등학교에서부터 효과적으로 그 개념을 지도하기 위한 방법을 다양한 관점에서 고려해야 할 것이다.

영문 초록

A prime number is one of important mathematical concepts, which is a multiplicative component of a natural number and the core of the number theory. In our country s elementary school textbooks, the words prime number and factorization in prime factors aren t used in a direct manner. On the contrary, the term prime number is mentioned and taught in a direct way in many foreign countries. The reason that this term isn t directly taught in our country seems to reduce student workload, and another reason seems that it is likely to be confused with another term decimal. In this study, two different classes whose academic performances related to aliquot and multiple were equivalent were selected. One class learned the concept of prime number, and the other didn t. The achievements of the two classes in relation to the greatest common devisor and the least common multiple were compared. As a result, the achievement of the class that learned the concept of prime number was significantly higher, and the other class that didn t learn it made several mistakes because of the ambiguous phrase can no longer be divided. A prime number is one of crucial concepts that make the mystery of mathematics more accessible. How to teach this concept effectively in elementary school should carefully be considered from various angles.
