편지쓰기를 통한 중등수학 예비교사의 과제변형 특징

국문 초록

본 연구에서는 중등수학 예비교사들이 학생들로부터 높은 인지적 노력 수준을 유발할 수 있도록 어떻게 과제를 설계하고 변형하며, 학생들에게 의도했던 수준과 실제로 유발된 수준의 차이에 대해 어떻게 설명하는지 이해하기 Norton & Kastberg(2012)의 편지쓰기를 적용하였다. 14명의 예비교사들을 대상으로 두 달여 간 탐구적 질적 사례연구를 실행한 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 예비교사들은 편지쓰기의 대상인 학생들에게 초점을 두어 과제를 변형해 인지적 노력 수준을 유지하거나 높일 수 있었다. 둘째, 예비교사들은 학생들이 과제를 해결하며 보여준 태도나 과제의 외형적 형태에 의해 기대했던 그리고 유발된 인지적 노력 수준 사이에 차이가 나타난다고 하였다. 본 연구는 편지쓰기와 같은 학생과 직·간접적으로 접할 수 있는 교사교육 활동이 연구되어 실제 학생에게 높은 인지적 노력 수준을 유발할 수 있는 과제를 선별하며 변형하여 제시하는 경험이 예비교사에게 필요함을 시사한다.

영문 초록

This study examined how secondary mathematics pre-service teachers design mathematic tasks to demand students’ high cognitive effort using letter-writing activities and how the secondary mathematics pre-service teachers explain about the differences between cognitive demand of tasks intended by the teachers and the actual cognitive effort enacted by the students. In order to investigate this case, 5 problems which are considered as ‘Doing Mathematics’ were selected and 2 tasks including letter-writing activities were conducted for 14 secondary mathematics pre-service teachers. As a result, the followings were come to a conclusion. First, the secondary mathematics pre-service teachers designed the tasks to demand higher cognitive effort or at least to maintain the cognitive demand level only focusing on the students. Second, the secondary mathematics pre-service teachers addressed that students’ attitude toward the tasks and the external form of the tasks create the gap between the cognitive efforts demanded and enacted. This study indicates that a program that promotes communication with students directly or indirectly like this letter-writing activity should be investigated so that the pre-service teachers can experience how to select, design and present the tasks to the real students.
