공간에 따른 유아의 위험성감수놀이 경험: 인위적으로 만들어진 공간과 자연적인 공간을 중심으로

국문 초록

본 연구는 공간이 다른 두 곳에서 유아의 위험성감수놀이 관찰을 통해 유아들의 위험성감수놀이 경험을 보다 깊게 이해하고자 한 질적연구이다. 질적연구란 연구자가 현장방문을 통해서 그곳에서 일어나는 장면들을 있는 그대로 기술하고 이를 귀납적으로 분석해내는 연구를 말한다. 이를 위해 충청남도 시내에 위치한 인위적으로 만들어진 실외놀이공간을 가진 일반유치원 한곳과 충청남도 외곽에 위치한 자연적인 공간의 숲유치원 한곳을 각각 7개월씩 총 33회 참여관찰 하였으며, 이를 통해 수집된 자료는 에믹코딩과 구조코딩의 순환적 과정을 거쳐 분석되었다. 연구결과, 인위적으로 만들어진 공간과 자연적인 공간에서의 유아의 위험성감수놀이 경험은 서로 대칭적으로 나타났다. ‘제한받는 신체’와 ‘도전하는 신체’, ‘안전에 대한 지나친 학습’과 ‘위험을 이겨낸 성취학습’, ‘규제 안에 머무는 경험’과 ‘통제 밖의 감각경험’ 등 대칭적 형태로 나타났다. 본 연구를 통해 유아들은 신체에 도전하고자 하는 강한 욕구가 있음이 파악되었으며, 안전만 중시하는 놀이와 도전이 없는 놀이 둘 중 하나만으로는 모두 유아의 성장과 발달의 최대치를 이끌어내지 못할 것이다. 따라서 위험 성감수놀이가 야기될 수 있는 자연적인 공간, 장비, 자원들을 접목하여 위험성에 대한 허용과 도전을 실험해볼 것을 제안한다.

영문 초록

This is a qualitative research to deeply understand risk-taking play experience of children in two different play spaces. Qualitative research refers to research that describes a scene as it is happening through a site visit and analyzes it in an inductive manner. For this, an observation was performed 33 times in total for 7 months subjected to two kindergartens. One is a general kindergarten with an artificial outdoor play space located in downtown of Chungcheongnam-do province and the other is a forest kindergarten with a natural play space located in the outskirt of Chungcheongnam-do province. The collected data from the observation have been analyzed through a recursive process of emic coding and structured coding. According to the study results, risk-taking play experience appears symmetrically in both artificial and natural place and showed various features such as physically restricted and pysically challenged , overextended learning about safety and achievment learning through overcoming risk , and experience within regulations and out-of-control sensory experience . Through this study, it is understood that children have strong desire to challenge the body. Only one of safety - focused play and unchallenged play alone would not be able to maximize the growth and development of children. Therefore, we propose to experiment with the tolerance and challenge of risk by combining natural space, equipment, and resources that can cause risk-taking play.
