현대 杜詩 번역의 특징과 향후 과제

국문 초록

본고에서는 현대 杜詩 번역의 흐름을 살펴보고 번역문의 특징을 고찰함으로써 앞으로 나아가야 할 두시 번역의 방향을 모색한다. 1970년대에 나온 초기 두시 번역은 주로 시인에 의해 이루어졌다. 시인의 번역문에는 형식에 대한 고민과 언어 조탁에 기울인 노고가 보인다. 그러나 의역의 방식을 취함에 따라 번역의 정확성이 비교적 낮다. 1990년대부터 다양한 두시 번역서들이 출현했다. 이들은 그 번역 의도 및 번역 방식에 따라 대중 번역서와 연구 번역서로 나눌 수 있다. 대중 번역서는 총서 형태로 출간되었고, 작품 수록 수도 많지 않으며, 번역문은 읽기 쉽게 되어 있으나 번역의 정확성은 높지 않다. 연구 번역서는 관련 분야의 연구자들을 주요 독자층으로 상정한 번역서로, 번역문은 문체가 건조하나 번역이 정확하며 풍부한 주석을 갖춘 것이 장점이다. 비전공자의 번역에는 두시 번역에서 필수적인 시 형식 및 대구, 구법 및 장법에 대한 이해가 결여되어 있다. 전공자의 번역에는 시로서의 원작의 어감을 살리지 못했다는 문제점이 있다. 앞으로 이상적인 두시 번역을 위해 전공자들은 언어 조탁에 보다 많은 노력을 기울이고, 비전공자들은 전공자들의 연구 성과를 활용하는 노력을 보태야 할 것이다.

영문 초록

The world's first complete translation of Du fu(杜甫)'s poetry was made in Joseon. But in modern times a complete Du fu's poetry translation has not been made yet. For the search of the right way to translate Du fu's poetry we have to consider the characteristics of those erstwhile Korean translations in modern times. At the early stage, the translations of Du fu's poetry was usually made by the poets. Their translation are natural and easy to read, but lack the accuracy and the transmission of rhyming couplet of the original. Since 1990 various types of translations has been made. Those translations can be divided into two groups, the popular translations and the academic translations. The popular translations usually are published in a series and the containing works is small in number, and the editing shows their pursuit of approach to the reading mass. The translations are easy to read, but there are some mistranslation. The academic translations are made to provide high quality of informations for the researchers in the relevant field. These translations are dry and stiff but accurate. The copious explanations and the footnotes are one of their strength. The non-major translators lack the understanding of the formality of the Chinese traditional poem, as is the essential element in Du fu's poetry, and the major translators lack the flowing and elegant style. Thus there are two way to enhance the quality of translation, the one is for the major translators equip the sensitiveness in Korean, the other is for the non-major translators refer to those major translators' academic fruit.
