광해군 시기 張良을 제재로 한 史論 散文의 일고찰

국문 초록

본 논문은 '張良이 商山四皓를 초빙하는 일'을 제재로 한 擬作을 대상으로, 그 외재적 측면인 창작 배경과 내재적 측면인 작품 기술 방식에 대해 분석한 연구이다. 먼저 그 창작배경을 살펴본 결과, 광해군 집권 전의 상황은 한나라 태자 劉盈과 여러모로 유사한 부분이 있었다. 그러므로 광해군을 태자 劉盈에게 견주어 세자를 보호하라는 논의가 나오기도 하였고 때로는 붕당 간의 권력 다툼에서 상대방을 간접적으로 비판하기 위해 둘 간의 유사성을 이용하기도 하였다. 게다가 시대적 공감을 얻었을 만큼 이러한 유사성이 특정 집단에 국한되어 이해된 것이 아니라 당시 많은 사람들이 모두 인정하고 있었다. 이러한 배경으로 인해 '장량이 사호를 초빙하는 일'은 당시 현실과의 밀접한 연관관계를 가지게 된다. 광해군의 세자 지위가 흔들렸던 만큼 세자 지위를 견고하게 해줄 인물을 초빙하는 일은 당시 정치적으로 중요한 현안이기 때문이다. 따라서 '장량이 사호를 초빙하는 일'을 제재로 한 의작은 장량이 사호를 추천한 역사와 당대 현실의 유사성에 공감한 문인들이 이 제재가 국가 시험에 출제될 가능성이 높다고 판단하여, 시험 대비를 목적으로 창작된 것이라 이해된다. 다음, 이 의작 가운데 張經世, 金中淸, 趙纘韓의 작품에는 사호의 출사를 설득하기 위해 활용한 다양한 서술 전략을 확인할 수 있었다. 장경세는 다소 긴 편폭을 구성하여 사호에게 예의를 표하고 칭송함으로써 그들의 출사를 회유하였고, 김중청은 압박감을 주는 서술을 통해 사호에게 출사를 강권하였다. 끝으로 조찬한은 전대와의 차이점과 유사점에 근거하여 사호의 출사에 대한 필요성을 부각시켰다.

영문 초록

This study takes internal and external approaches to read Uijak(擬作) writings about Zhang Liang(張良)'s inviting Four Greybeards of South Mountain(商山四皓). This treatise consists of two parts, the background of the Uijak works and their narrative strategies. Intermsofpoliticalcircumstances, Gwanghae's unstable status as a crown prince before his accession to throne was regarded similar to that of the prince You-young(劉盈). This similarity was used to urge the lieges to support Gwanghae and to attack the opposite fraction indirectly. In this process, the metaphor was repeatedly and gradually empowered, thus the event of Zhang Liang(張良)'s inviting Greybeards of South Mountain(商山四皓) was closely linked to the reality of the time since engaging someone who could strengthen the authority of the crown prince was a large political issue. In this atmosphere, a lot of Uijak works about the topic were written as practices for the civil service exam, according to the expectations of applicants who saw a possibility that this hot issue might be on the exam. Also, various narrative strategies are found in the works especially written by Jang Kyung-se(張經世), Kim Joong-chung(金中淸) and Jo Chan-han(趙纘韓). Kyung-se(張經世) expressed his deep honor to Four Greybeards of South Mountain(商山四皓) and praised his virtue in the lengthy phrase to draw over him to his side, while Kim Joong-chung(金中淸) forced him to be his side using strong words. On the other hand, Jo Chan-han(趙纘韓) pointed out the reason why he should enter on the official career based on the differences and similarities the prince had to his father.
