'자기서사' 발견과 동일성 회복의 글쓰기: 최인호의 『낯익은 타인들의 도시』 연구

국문 초록

이 논문은 문학치료학만의 독특한 개념인 '자기서사'와 '작품서사'의 개념을 인문학적 맥락에서 재해석함으로써 문학치료학이 작품분석의 방법론으로도 활용될 수 있을지 그 가능성을 타진해보고자 한다. 또한 이 논문에서는 설화뿐만이 아니라 만화나 게임과 같은 서사 유형 또한 문학치료학의 '진단서사'로 유용할 수 있다는 관점을 제시하고자 한다. 최인호의 『낯익은 타인들의 도시』에는 만화적/게임적 서사 구조가 적극 활용되고 있으며 작품의 주인물이 만화적/게임적 서사를 '진단서사'로 활용하여 '자기서사'를 발견하고 이를 통해 '건강한 서사'로 나아가는 과정이 작품의 주 내용을 이루고 있어, '서사지도' 개념을 활용하여 작품을 분석하기에 적합하다. 『낯익은 타인들의 도시』에서 '작품서사'로 기능하는 다양한 서사들, 즉 친구 H의 이야기, P교수의 이야기, <세일러문>과 <파워레인저> 이야기들은 모두 K에게 '진단서사'로도 기능한다. K는 소설의 전개 속에서 분절적 지점마다 이러한 '진단서사'를 접하면서 자신에게 내재된 '자기서사'와의 거리감을 표명하면서 그에 공감하거나 혹은 반감을 느낀다. H의 이야기에 대해서는 반감을 느끼고 P교수의 이야기에는 있는 그대로를 인정하면서 일종의 서사지도를 형성하게 되고 그 속에서 자신의 심리적 이상을 발견하는 식이다. 여기서 K의 심리적 이상이란 주변의 인물들이 빅브라더의 명령에 의해 자신을 속이고 있다는 일종의 망상증인데, 다양한 '작품서사'를 접하는 가운데 주변의 인물이 잘못된 것이 아니라 바로 자기 자신이 잘못되어 있음을 깨닫게 된다. 문제의 원인을 자신에게서 발견함으로써 K는 '완전한 나'를 회복할 기회를 얻게 된다. 그 기회란 앞에서 살펴본 것처럼 기원으로의 회귀를 의미하기도 하고 '기원'과 원형적으로 닿아있는 '죽음'을 의미하기도 한다. '작품서사'로 등장했던 수많은 주변 인물들과 작별하고 K는 죽음, 혹은 재탄생을 맞이한다. 이는 인지하지 못했지만 K 자신에게 내재되어 있던 '자기서사'의 완결이자 새로운 '자기서사'로의 전환점이라 할 수 있다. 수많은 주변 인물들의 등장은 '자기서사'의 경험적 재구성이며 이를 통해 K의 분열적 정체성은 경험을 통합하는 '서술적 정체성'으로 나아갈 수 있게 된다.

영문 초록

This paper was intended to find a possibility as to whether literary therapy can be utilized as methodology of literary work analysis by reinterpreting a concept of 'epic of self' and 'epic of literary work', a peculiar concept only in literary therapy, from humanistic context. Also, this paper proposes a viewpoint that a narrative type such as a cartoon or game as well as a folktale can be utilized as 'diagnosis epic' in literary therapy. In Choi Inho's 『Familiar Others' City』, cartoon/game-style epic structure is positively utilized and the main contents of the literary work comprise of the process in which main characters discover 'epic of self' by using cartoon/game-style epic as 'diagnosis epic' and, through this, proceed into 'healthy epic', so that this is convenient to analyze by utilizing a concept of 'epic map'. In 『Familiar Others' City』, various epics which function as 'epic of literary work', that is, all of a story of friend H, a story of professor P, stories of and , etc. function to K as 'epic of literary work'. K, as he contacts such 'diagnostic epic' at every segmental point through development of a novel, expressing a sense of distance from 'epic of self' inherent in self, sympathizes with or feels hostility to it. Feeling hostility toward H's story and recognizing professor P's story as it is, he forms a kind of epic map and finds his psychological ideal in it. Where, K's psychological ideal is a kind of reticulosis that persons around him deceives self by order of Big Brothers, in the midst of contacting a variety of 'epics of literary work', he gets to realize that it is not persons around him but the very himself who was wrong. By discovering causes of problems from self, K gets to have an opportunity to be able to recover 'complete self'. The opportunity, as examined before, means a reversion to the origin, and also means 'death' connected to 'the origin' circularly. Departing from lots of persons who appeared as 'epic of literary work', K greets death or re-birth. Though not realized, this can be completion of 'epic of self' inherent in the self of K and a turning point of new 'epic of self'. Appearance of lots of surrounding figures is experiential re-composition of 'epic of self' and, through this, the segmental identity of K is able to proceed to 'identité narrative' of integrating experiences.
