국문 초록

해방기는 일제의 지배에서 벗어나 민족과 국가가 일치된 사회를 꿈꿀 수 있었던 시기였다. 이 시기 문학장에서는, 문학자들의 자기비판을 통한 일제 잔재의 청산과, 민족국가의 건설을 위한 민족문학의 성립이 당면과제로 주창되고 있었다. 이때 암흑기 담론을 바탕으로 한 자기비판은 민족문학의 주체 자리를 차지하기 위한 문학자들의 전략에서 출발했다. 그런데 이는 시조시인 김상옥에 의해 엄격한 자기비판으로 순수하게 수용되기도 했다. 한편 민족문학의 성립은 당대 문단의 공통적인 쟁점으로 여겨졌으나, 그 구체적인 인식과 실천에 있어서 문학단체들은 각기 다른 지향을 드러냈고 실험했다. 지배적인 국제질서로 부여되고 있었던 좌우익 이데올로기의 영향 속에서 재편이 진행 중인 사회였기 때문이다. 시조시인 이병기와 조운의 경우를 통해 그러한 현실을 잘 알 수 있다. 그러한 해방기 문단에서 시조 장르는 민족문학으로서 '다시' 논의되었다. 시조는 근대 이후 '전통'적인 민족문학이라는 가치로서 재발견되어온 장르였기에, 그러한 논의는 그 이전 시기 시조 담론의 연장선상에 있는 것이었다. 그런 한편 해방기 문화정치의 특정한 지점에서 재의미화되어가는 측면도 있었다. 당대 민족문학의 기획은 우리말과 전통이라는 가치를 중심으로 시조 장르를 재사유하고 있었다. 이전까지 일반적으로 우파 민족주의 문학의 전유물로 인식되고 있었던 시조는, 이 시기에 한정적으로나마 좌우익 문단을 초월하여 긍정적인 민족문학의 형식으로 담론화되기도 했다. 이에 따라 본 연구에서는 해방기 민족문학 기획의 지형과 관련하여 당대 시조의 담론 및 창작 양상을 살펴보고 있다. 이는 사회변화에 부응ㆍ대응함으로써 전개되어올 수 있었던 현대시조의 한 지점을 검토해보는 작업이라 할 수 있다.

영문 초록

The period after independence from the Japanese imperialism, it was possible to dream of a society with the consistency between nationality and the state. In the field of literature, men of letters advocated eradicating the remnants of the Japanese colonial rule through self-criticism and to firmly establish national literature to construct a state based on the concept of nationality, and they were thought to be immediate issues. Self-criticism, it could be argued, was a strategic move to occupy a position of dominance in national literature at the time. The discourse was based on the conceptualization of the Japanese occupation which dominates a subordinate state with inevitable way, and it was used to expand the sphere of those subject to criticism; the logic used was that in repenting and engaging in self-criticism, one could be allowed to participate in national literature. The establishment of national literature was considered to be a common issue of the literary field at the time, but different literary organizations, in terms of understanding and practice, showed different inclinations and participated in separate experiments. It was because the Korean society was reorganized under the influence of the dominant force that was the international order along the left-right ideological axis. In this era of turbulence after liberation, the genre of sijo 'resurfaced' as a national literature. Since sijo was a genre that was rediscovered or reevaluated as a 'traditional' form of national literature after modernization started, the discussion was an extension of the previous discourse on sijo. As well, from the special vantage point of the post-liberation politics of culture, the discussion at the time was redefinition of sijo as a genre with language and tradition as values to be pursued. Sijo was considered to be a property of the conservative nationalist literary movement until then, but, albeit in a limited sense, the ideological divide in literature was put aside, and sijo was discussed as a positive example of national literature at the time. This study examines the discourse of sijo and the patterns in the genre in the terrain of the post-liberation national literature at the time. It is an attempt to investigate the modern sijo that developed as it satisfied or responded to a society in flux at a point in time. It is also a critical look at the perspective that only looks for the internal sources for the longevity of sijo as a genre in caving to idea of national literature.
