국문 초록

본고는 필자에 의해 새로 발굴된 한문소설을 소개하고 그 서사적 특징에 관해 논의하려는 의도 아래 작성된 것이다. 본고에서 소개하는 자료는 대구 가톨릭대학교 도서관에 소장된 <巴陵奇事>라는 한문소설이다. 서지사항은 전체 198면, 매면 12행 14자, 총 33,000여자 정도 분량의 필사본 1책으로 작품 말미에 ‘壬戌 二月 十二日 右寫’라는 필사년도가 기재되어 있어, 대략적으로 19세기에 창작된 작품으로 추정된다. 본고에서는 새로 발굴한 <파릉기사>를 소개하는데 주안점을 두고 먼저 서사분절을 개괄한 다음 작품의 서사적 특징에 관해 4가지 측면에서 살펴 보았다. 첫째, <파릉기사>는 ‘家族의 構成과 離合’이라는 서사 구조를 핵심 축으로 구성되어 있다. 이점은 남녀 주인공인 李夢星과 梅玉英 그리고 그의 아들인 雲南生으로 구성되는 가족의 구성과 이합의 과정을 중심으로 서술된 것에서 확인된다. 이와 함께 서사 전개 양상에 있어 독특한 면모 또한 발견되는데, 그것은 유배지로 남편을 찾아나서는 아내의 여정이, 이후 아들이 아버지를 찾아나서는 여정으로 반복되는 서사가 구축되는 것을 통해 확인된다. 이를 통해 ‘家族’의 구성이 서사의 중요한 핵심 축으로 설정되어 있음을 알 수 있으며, 이러한 점에서 <파릉기사>는 ‘家門小說’적 양상 또한 일정부분 틈입되어 있음을 확인할 수 있다. 둘째, <파릉기사>는 19세기에 창작된 것으로 추정되는데, 이 시기에 창작된 작품임을 짐작케 하는 성향으로 전대 소설의 화소가 활용되고 있는 점을 지적할 수 있다. 대표적으로 <파릉기사>의 경우 <淑香傳>의 화소가 세부적으로 차용되고 있는데, <숙향전>의 화소를 활용한 것은 전범이 되는 작품의 화소를 차용하여 서술함으로써 독자로 하여금 흥미를 불러일으키는 역할을 기대한 서술방식으로 이해된다. 셋째, <파릉기사>는 經傳의 주석 방식 및 夾批를 부분적으로 활용하여 서술하는 방식을 사용하고 있다. 이는 본문에 기술된 단어의 하단에 경전의 細注처럼 音을 달거나 특정 대목이나 단락에 관해 여백 상단에 간단한 설명을 제시하는 방식으로 기술되고 있다. 이점은 조선후기 평점소설 계열에서 간헐적으로 확인되는 양상으로 <파릉기사>의 서술방식에 김성탄 평비의 편린이 일정부분 영향을 끼치고 있는 것으로 생각되는 부분이다. 넷째, <파릉기사>는 漢詩, 書簡, 上疏, 祭文 등 다양한 한문문체 양식이 활용되고 있으며, 이 가운데 漢詩는 작중 인물의 재능을 과시하는 요소로 활용되고 있고, 上疏의 경우 갈등을 부각, 해소시키는 양식으로 활용되고 있다. 게다가 이러한 문체 양식의 활용은 작품의 분량 확대를 통한 중편화 경향에 영향을 끼치고 있으며, 이들 양식의 활용을 통해 작중 등장인물의 감정 전달이 디테일하게 이뤄지는 효과를 낳고 있다.

영문 초록

This paper is intended to introduce the newly discovered a Chinese novel and discuss the narrative characteristics of the a Chinese novel. The data which is depicted through this paper is that is a Chinese novel kept at the Dae-Gu Catholic University library. The total number of pages is 198 and every page has 12 lines and 14 words. The total words used in this book is approximately 33,000 words and there is ‘imsul two month twelve right descrive’ which indicates the publication year recorded at the last page of this book so this book is estimated to be created in 19th centuries. This paper focuses on introducing , the recently discovered novel, and analyzed the narrative characteristics in 4 different aspects after appreciating divide narrative. First of all is narrative with a core of narrative structure which is ‘composition and meeting and parting of family’. This point could be identified through the process of meeting and parting and the family members composed of Lee Mong Sung who is male main character, Mae Oc Young who is female main character and their son Un Nam Saeng. With this point, also the unique and interesting aspects are discovered in the process of developing narrative story, which could be identified through the wife’s trip to find her husband in isolated place is repeated as the son tries to find his father later on. The composition of ‘family’ is set up as an important core part in terms of structuring narrative and is identified as being composed of ‘korean family novel’ aspects for a certain level in this matter. Second, is estimated to be published in 19th centuries because story of former novel is utilized, which gives a big clue to its publication date. In the case of , the story of is partially adopted and using the story of is regarded as a method to drive interests from readers by describing the story with adoption of the story of novel that could be classic. This could be interpreted as that ‘popular nature’ is a intrinsic characteristic of this novel. Third, utilizes the descriptive method with the annotation method of Confucianism bible and partial use of side criticism. This is described as a method that suggesting simple explanation as a formation of annotation about specific lines or paragraphs by attaching the sound like annotation of Confucianism bible. This aspect is rarely identified in post cho-sun mark novel group and a portion of jin seung tian criticism seems to give certain level of influences on . Fourth, contains various formation of chiness writing styles like Chinese poem, epistle, appeal papers, funeral oration and among those Chinese poem is used as a factor by showing off the talent of a character, developing conflicts in case of appeal papers, and resolving the conflicts. Furthermore the usage of those writing styles gives influences on the tendency of a medium-length story through expanding the volume of novel and it gives impact of developing the process of expressing characters’ emotions in detail.
