科擧試驗 硏究의 現況과 課題

국문 초록

본고는 지식인들의 한문학습과 글쓰기 활동에 절대적 영향력을 행사한 과거시험에 대하여 그 동안 어떤 연구가 어디까지 진행되었는가? 향후 새롭게 주목해야 할 연구 과제는 어떤 것이 있을까? 하는 등을 한문학 연구자의 입장에서 검토해보았다. 지금까지 과거시험을 중심적 연구대상으로 삼은 논저는 대략 300여 편 가량이었다. 이 가운데 무과와 잡과를 제외하고, 생원 진사 문과 및 과거시험 일반에 대한 연구가 230여 편이었는데, 주요 연구 대상은 대략 6개 분야였다. ① 시험제도의 성립과 운영 변화, ② 응시자의 신분과 진출 분포, ③ 시험의 부정과 폐단 개혁, ④ 시험과 교육의 관계, ⑤ 試卷과 科文 일반, ⑥ 시험관련 儀式과 생활문화 등이 그것이었다. 이들 6개 분야에 대한 연구 성과를 비판적으로 살펴본 결과, 앞으로 주목해야 할 연구과제 또한 여러 가지 있을 것으로 판단되었다. ① 시험관련 자료를 체계적으로 조사하여 문서 아카이브를 구축하는 일, ② 시험관련 고문서를 통해 방목 자료로는 알기 어려운 시험의 내면적 정보를 구체적으로 파악하는 일, ③ 응시자가 작성한 수많은 답안지의 형식과 내용 문체 등을 검토하여 이른바 場屋之文의 실체를 규명하는 일, ④ 시험 문제 분석을 통해 국가의 교육정책과 개인의 독서경향을 파악하는 일, ⑤ 시험의 진행 절차, 평가기준, 금기사항 등 법전에 명시되지 않은 다양한 세부 규칙의 실상을 밝혀내는 일 ⑥ 기타 시험 관련 참고서의 생산과 유통, 응시자의 시험 관련 글쓰기와 창작활동의 실상, 합격 이후의 다채로운 문화행사 등이 그런 것이었다.

영문 초록

This article, from the point of view of Chinese classics researcher, aimed to examine existing studies on the highest-level state examination that had great effects on the learning and writing of classical Chinese of old intellectuals, and suggest new research theme. There were about 300 or more literatures which are related to the exam. 230 from 300 or more literatures are on Saengwon(生員), Jinsa(進士), Mungwa(文科) and the general system of the exam. Those literatures are mainly about six subjects: ① the establishment, operation and change of exam system, ② the distribution of examinee's social classes, ③ the reform of exam-related corruption, ④ the relation between exam and education, ⑤ exam papers and proposed styles, and ⑥ the ceremonies and culture related to the exam. This article suggested also six subjects to be studied in the future: ① setting up archive related to the exam, ② review on old document about the exam, ③ research on the form and writing style of answer paper, ④ analysis on the exam questions and the reading trend of examinee, ⑤ practical rules of exam that were not provided by related laws, ⑥ the production and distribution of reference books, the real states of writing and creative activities of examinee, and various cultural events after pass.
