국문 초록

본 연구의 목적은 백두산정계비 건립 과정과 건립 이후 처의 재조사와 사실왜곡에 대하여 분석하고, 이를 토대로 백두산정계비의 역할과 후일 한·중간 간도영유권 확정을 위한 새로운 논의의 측면에서 접근하여 그 역할을 종합적으로 재평가해 보고자 하는 데 있다. 연구대상을 백두산정계비로 한정하였고, 연구범위로서 시대적 한계는 백두산정계비 건립에서 간도협약까지로, 지리적 범위는 백두산정계비와 토문강 이남의 간도를 포함한 영역으로, 내용적 범위는 백두산정계비의 역할과 재평가를 해 보는 것으로 한정하였다. 연구방법으로서 접근방법은 역사적 접근방법을, 조사방법은 문헌조사법을, 분석방법은 기술적(記述的) 분석방법을 사용하였다. 연구 결과, 오늘날의 간도영유권 문제는 적어도 분쟁상태에 있다는 것이 그 법적 측면의 판단이다. 또한, 백두산정계비는 조·청간 비문 해석상에 이견이 있었지만, 국제법상 유효한 국경조약으로 조·청 양국을 구속하고, 압록·토문강의 분수령상에 정계비를 건립함으로서 양국간의 국경획정과 국경선으로서의 표지 역할을 동시에 수행하고 있다고 판단된다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to analyze reinvestigation and truth perversion of Chung during and after the erection of Mt. Baikdu Demarcation stone. Based on the finding, this study will revaluate the overall role of the stone by discussing settlement of Gando sovereignty between Korea and China in the future. The target of this study was limited to Mt. Baikdu Demarcation Stone. The scope of the study was from the erection to Gando convention, whereas, the geological scope was from Mt. Baikdu Demarcation Stone to Gando located in the southern area of the Tomun river. The scope of the content was limited to understanding and revaluating the roles of Mt. Baikdu Demarcation Stone. As for the research method, historical approach, literature research and descriptive analysis were used. As a result of the study, the legal aspect of Gando sovereignty issue concludes that it is still in dispute. Joseon and Chung had different opinions on the interpretation of inscription on Mt. Baikdu Demarcation Stone. However, the two countries were bound by a valid border treaty of international law. And by erecting the demarcation stone on the watershed of the Ap-lok and Tomun rivers, the stone is serving as both a demarcation and a border line mark between the two countries.
