국문 초록

이 논문은 星湖 李瀷의 문인 중 학계에서 주목받지 못했던 蟾窩 李玄煥(1713~1772)이란 작가를 소개하고, 그의 저작 『蟾窩雜著』를 통해 그의 詩論을 규명하고자 한 것이다. 이현환의 저작 『蟾窩雜著』에는 18세기 문예사에 관한 중요한 정보뿐 아니라 當代의 詩를 바라보고 진단한, 작자 이현환의 선명한 詩評이 담겨 있다. 그는 이 자료에서 當代를 詩道가 인멸된 시대로 인식하고, 詩創作과 詩道회복을 위한 중요한 견해를 제시하였다. 우선 시창작의 기본 전제로 ‘眞知’와 ‘篤好’를 강조하였다. 그는 道學이나 學文 분야에서 강조하였던 眞知와 篤好를, 詩부분에 적용시켜 시창작의 기본전제로 이해하고 詩를 궁구하고 연구해야할 대상으로 인식했다. 뿐만 아니라 篆刻ㆍ書畵 등 문예전반의 창작과 이해를 위한 기본 전제로 간주하기도 하였다. 또한 詩道를 회복할 수 있는 중요한 관건으로 『詩經』과 「古詩十九首」를 중시하였다. 그는 특정 작가나 형식을 전범으로 삼아서는 참다운 시가 이루어질 수 없다고 생각하고, 詩聖ㆍ詩仙이라 일컬어지는 杜甫ㆍ李白조차도 그 가치를 폄하해버렸다. 이는 외면적 규율과 통제로부터 해방되고 자신의 감정을 유로시킨 『詩經』과 「古詩十九首」의 정신을 계승해야만 인멸된 시도를 회복할 수 있다고 생각한 것이다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this paper is to address Sumwa, Lee Hyun-Hwan(1713~1772) who has not been paid much attention to from the academic world, compared to his fellows under Seongho, Lee Ik and to identify his poetics by analyzing his book, Sumwazabseo. This book contains important information about the literary and artistic trends in the 18th century and clearly presents his critical viewpoint of poetry and his evaluation of the contemporary poems. He criticized that poems had lost the spirit of poetry and submitted his significant opinion for writing a poem and reinstating that spirit. What is important is that the author emphasized 'truly knowing' and 'a strong liking' as basic principles of writing a poem. He also believed these attitudes, originally valued in the contemporary academic world and philosophical study, should be applied for poetic study, acknowledging poetry as one of the main object for study. Additionally, he regarded these essential attitudes as the fundamentals to understand and to create literary and art works such as seal engraving, calligraphy and paintings. More significantly, he put priority on Shijing and Koshishipkusu for reinstating the spirit of poetry. Since he held a belief that a poet could not write a good poem following a particular writer or a style so that he devalued even the great poets like Tu Fu and Lee Bai. This is because he believed the destroyed spirit of poetry could be restored by following the spirit of Shijing and Koshishipkusu which liberated individual emotions from outside rules and control.
