국문 초록

宮崎駿のアニメーション映画『ハウルの動く城』は高齢社会を背景に、主人公ソフィーを通して、<老い>を発見していくストーリーを内包している。それには、若者が<老い>という異文化を肯定的な面も含めて体験し、理解する側面がある。そこから、世代間の理解と疎通というテーマを読み取ることはできまいか。 ハウルについては、バブル崩壊後の長期不況期に青年時代を生きる｢失われた世代｣との関連性や夏目漱石の『それから』の主人公·代助との共通点について考察を試みた。特に、ハウルと代助は国家権力に対する立ち位置も似ており、注目できる。 蒸気文明に象徴される19世紀の欧州に空想を加味した舞台であるが、戦争描写や戦争に対する主人公たちの反応は、９.11同時多発テロ以後のイラク戦争下という状況を反映しているとともに、戦争に対する宮崎の思想が反映されている。 この作品についてはこれまで家族というテーマからも論じられてきたが、血縁はなくとも、心の持ち方ひとつで<家族>になれるという心の共同体という観点は共通している。

영문 초록

The animation film Howl’s Moving Castle, directed by Hayao Miyazaki, depicts a story about an aging society where the protagonist Sophie finds ‘aging’. This story shows how the youth experiences and understands both positive and negative aspects of ‘aging’, a cultural phenomenon that they normally do not think of. In this sense, it seems that the animation film raises the theme of inter-generational understanding and communication. The present article conceptualises the protagonist Howl in connection with the people of the ‘lost generation’ living during the prolonged recession after the bubble burst and also the protagonist of Soseki Natsume’s And Then, Daisuke. In particular, Howl and Daisuke are noteworthy because they have similar attitudes to the state power. Howl’s Moving Castle describes the imagined world comparable to the European countries in the 19th century, where the First Industrial Revolution occurred, but it also reflects the Post 9.11. world experiencing the Iraq War and also reflects Miyazaki’s thoughts on wars. Previous studies have approached this film from the perspective of family. This point seems to be validated if we presume that people can form a ‘family’ depending on how they, even though not in a blood relationship, think of others.
