정미경 소설에 나타난 주체와 타자

국문 초록

2000년대 한국소설은 1990년대 주체 해체를 대신해 타자와의 공존을 지향하는 새로운 윤리적 주체를 어떻게 소설적으로 형상화하느냐 하는 몫을 부여받는다. 정미경 작품은 2000년대 소설의 이 몫을 심도 있게 다루고 있다. 버틀러에 따르면, 인간은 근본적으로 폭력에 노출되어 상실의 슬픔을 느끼고, 취약한 몸을 지닌 존재이다. 그러기에 인간은 타자에 의존하여 살아갈 수밖에 없다. 주체는 자족적이고 자율적인 존재라는 환상에서 벗어나, 스스로 근본적인 취약성과 상호의존성이라는 한계를 지닌 존재임을 인식하여야 한다. 그럴 때 주체는 자신의 성립 조건을 문제 삼으면서 타자의 타자성을 인정하고, 타자와 공존하는 장을 지향하는 새로운 윤리적 주체로 거듭날 수 있다. 이런 측면을 염두에 두고, 이 글은 정미경 작품에 나타나는 주체와 타자의 관계 변화를 고찰하였다. 2장에서는 ｢달은 스스로 빛나지 않는다｣를 대상으로 하여, 타자의 타자성을 말살하는 주체의 폭력적인 인정방식과 타자의 타자성이 갖는 의의를 고찰하였다. 3장에서는 ｢성스러운 봄｣을 대상으로 하여, 아이의 죽음으로 상실의 슬픔에 빠진 주체가 인간의 근본적인 취약성을 자각하고, ‘나’와 ‘너’의 유일성을 깨닫는 과정을 고찰하였다. 4장에서는 ｢무화과나무 아래｣를 대상으로 하여, 몸의 취약성으로 인해 자신의 한계를 자각한 주체가 타자에의 배려로 나아가 타자의 특수규범을 재현(번역)하면서 타자와의 공존을 지향하는 과정을 고찰하였다.

영문 초록

Korean novels in the 2000s are given a share of how to novelize a new ethical subject that aims to coexist with others instead of dismantling the subject in the 1990s. Jeong Mi-kyung’s work deals in depth with this share of the 2000s novel. According to Judith Butler, humans are fundamentally exposed to violence and feel the sadness of loss, and have a vulnerable body. Therefore, humans have no choice but to live with the other. It is necessary to recognize that the subject is a being with limitations of fundamental vulnerability and interdependence, away from the illusion of self-sufficiency and autonomous existence. At that time, the subject can be reborn as a new ethical subject that recognizes the other’s otherness while taking issue with the conditions of his establishment and aims to coexist with the other. This article examines the change in the relationship between the subject and the other in Jeong Mi-kyung’s work. Chapter 2 examines the violent recognition method of the subject that destroys the other’s otherness and the significance of the othe’s otherness, targeting “the moon does not shine on its own”. Chapter 3 examines the process in which the subject who fell into the grief of loss due to the death of the child is aware of the fundamental vulnerability of human beings and realizes the uniqueness of ‘I’ and ‘you’, targeting “the holy spring”. Chapter 4 examines the process in which the subject, who is aware of his limitations due to the vulnerability of the body, moves toward coexistence with the other by translating special norms of the other, targeting “under a fig tree”.
