국어과 교과서의 현대시 텍스트 독법에 대한 성찰

국문 초록

이 논문은 국어 교과서에 수록되는 현대 시편의 이해와 감상이 학습 독자에게 어렵게 다가오는 이유가 무엇인지를 규명함으로써 그 어려움을 해소해 가는 길을 모색해 본 것이다. 교과서의 독법은 시편의 문법과 맥락에 대한 이해가 결여되었을 뿐 아니라 오늘날 학습 독자의 감성에 맞지 않는 감성에 기초하고 있다는 점을 확인하였다. 박목월의 <하관>과 월명사의 <제망매가>는 텍스트의 맥락을 재구하며 읽을 수 있는 작품인데도 그점들을 충분히 고려하지 않은 독법의 결과를 ‘교과서적 해설’로 수용하고 있었음을 확인한 것이다. 시든 노래든 그것은 사람의 마음을 소통하고 공감하는 매개인데, 국어학자들이 만들어온 한국어의 보편 문법을 어릴 적부터 학습하는 학습 독자들이 작가의 마음을 헤아리지 못하는 텍스트라면 교재로서의 기능을 온전하게 수행하기 어렵다. 따라서 시편의 문법적 특성과 맥락, 학습 독자의 감성 등을 종합적으로 고려하여 텍스트를 선정하고 이해와 감상을 위한 활동을 설계해 가야 한다. 이 글이 현대 시편과 학습 독자 사이의 거리를 좁혀가는 데 도움이 되었으면 하는 바람이다.

영문 초록

This paper aims to examine the reason why students who are completing the Middle educational course have been ill at ease, or uncompfortable during reading pieces of Korean modern poetry, which have being put in the Korean language textbooks, and to seek the way how they could appreciate the poetic texts more easily and more fully. The reason looks like this; the commentaries on the poetic texts, which hae been intoduced as the base for appricating activities, result from the readings without considering the grammar, the context of them, and the senses of the students. It can be proved through the difference between the reading of the first reviewer and the self-explanation of the writer on the poem Hagwan 下棺 (Lowering the Coffin), and that the reading of most researchers is proper to the context of the song Jemangmaega 祭亡妹歌 (Song for the ceremony the preta of the compser’s sister). Considering that the fundamental function of poetry and song is in communicating media of minds between the maker and readers ane hearers, the texts of Korean modern poetry that students who have studyed the grammar of Korean language as the effective medium of communication and sympathy and developed their own senses by such educational experiences from early childhood, have difficulties to read and appriciate are disqualified as the textbooks for them. Thus, this paper suggest that when we select reding a text of poetry and song for them we should consider the grammatic characteristics of it, its real context, and all the senses of maker’s and readers, especially students. If so, we could design all the activities for appreciating it; students could develop their reading and communicating competence through poetry, or song.
