근대 통도사 승려들의 시문 창작과 그 의미

국문 초록

통도사는 많은 고승들이 머물면서 시문학을 꽃피웠던 곳이다. 특히, 조선 중․후기 喚惺 志安(1664~1729)이 주석하면서 초석을 이루었고 그 영향이 법손들에게 이어져 19세기에 들어와서는 시가 일상의 유희로 자리 잡게 된다. 이 글은 1914년과 1932년에 각각 제작된 『聖海禪師壽宴詩』와 『金剛山錄抄案』을 통해 근대 통도사 승려들의 시문활동을 살피는 데 목적을 두고 있다. 『聖海禪師壽宴詩』는 근대 통도사의 중흥조인 성해 남거 선사의 수연을 맞아 제작된 축시집으로, 성해의 原韻詩를 중심으로 전개된다. 참가한 인물들은 당대 고승들과 통도사 및 인근 말사들의 강원․학림 승려들, 문인․예술가 등이다. 특히, 훗날 항일운동에 나선 재가 및 승려들의 오랜 시들을 확인할 수 있어 의미가 크며 한편으로 통도사 항일운동이 이 시집의 발간을 시작으로 태동되었다는 점에 있어 그 의미가 크다고 할 수 있다. 『金剛山錄抄案』은 구하 천보가 1932년 수연을 맞아 금강산 장안사에서 여름 안거를 보내게 되는데 이때, 금강산 구석구석을 유람하면서 보고 느낀 바를 기록한 일기체 형식의 여행록 혹은 관상록이다. 고려 말 이후 현재까지 금강산 관상에 대해 僧․俗을 망라하고 5개월이라는 긴 기간의 기록을 전한 것은 이 자료가 유일하다. 특히, 승려의 눈에 비친 금강산에 대한 신앙적 인식과 불교 유물에 대한 관심을 사실적으로 전달한 것이 이 자료의 특징이라 할 수 있다.

영문 초록

Tongdosa is the place where the greatest number of monks of all time stayed and bloomed poetry. Particularly, in the mid and late Joseon Dynasty, Hwanseong Jian(1664~1729) joined a Buddhist monastry and found his peace, and greatly influenced Tongdosa where his disciples stayed, and then in the 19th century, poetry became daily amusement.high priest The purpose of this article is to examine the composition and contents of 『SeonghaeSeonsa Suyeonsi』 and 『Geumgangsan Yeochoan』 which were produced in 1914 and 1932 and are currently being handed down to Tongdosa. These are very important clue to examine how actively Tongdosa monks have written poems since the late 19th century. 『 SeonghaeSeonsa Suyeonsi is a collection of congratulatory poems for 60th birthday of Seonghae Namgeo, a restorer of the modern Tongdosa Temple, and was composed of poems by monks, writers, and artists of the time. It is based on Seonghae’s original poet and also has many poets of independence activists who later devoted themselves to the people. So it is an important clue to examine the independence movement history of Tongdosa as much as the external meaning to celebrate 60th birthday of Seonghae. 『Geumgangsan Yeochoan』 is a diary-style record of of every corner of Geumgang Mountain when Guha Cheonbo lived in Jangansa Temple in the summer to mark his 60th birthday in 1932. This data is the only one that has been recorded and reported about the scenery of Geumgang Mountain for such a long period of five months since the end of Goryeo Dynasty. In particular, it is characterized by a realistic message of religious awareness of Geumgang Mountain and interest in Buddhist relics reflected in the Buddhist monk s eyes. The prologue and Epilogue of this book was written by Choi Wol-bong and Baek Choi-seung and they played a very important role in the history of the Korean Buddhist independence movement. So it is expected to be valuable materials for studying the independence activities of Tongdosa Temple or Guha, along with the 『SeonghaeSeonsa Suyeonsi』.
