학가재 이주의 사상경향과 일상으로서의 문학

국문 초록

본고는 李𦁖가 남긴 자료적 성격이 어떠한가에서 출발하여, 성학과정과 사상경향, 문학관과 그 작품에 나타난 일상의 형상, 이주 문학의 형식적 특징 등을 두루 살핀 것이다. 이 과정에서 우리는 학계에 거의 알려져 있지 않은 매우 중요한 작가를 새롭게 발굴하게 되었다. 이주는 장현광과 정구에게 일정한 영향을 받은 것으로 보이는데, 주자학적 우주론은 張顯光을 통해서, 향촌사회의 질서는 鄭逑를 통해서 학습한 것으로 보인다. 또한 사상적 측면에서는 개방되어 있었다. 즉 이주는 성리학적 우주론을 유지하면서도 도불에 매우 개방적이었으며, 특히 불경을 용사하면서 매우 자유로운 상상력을 구사하였다. 이주의 사상적 개방성은 문학적인 방면에 특별한 기량을 발휘할 수 있게 했다. 이는 그의 문학이 古拙의 미를 추구한다기보다 세련되고 화려한 富贍의 미를 지닐 수 있었던 이유이기도 하다. 그가 문예에 매우 많은 노력을 기울인 것도 바로 이러한 문학관을 지니고 있었기 때문이다. 실험정신에 입각한 이주의 문학은 형식적인 측면에서도 뚜렷한 특징을 발휘하였다. 경험한 사실을 사실적으로 나타내고자 한 장시, 정밀하게 사물을 관찰하고 그것을 체계적으로 작품화한 연작시, 다양한 형태의 잡체시가 그것이다. 이주 문학에 나타난 이러한 실험정신은 근체시가 가진 획일성에서 벗어나고 싶은 그 스스로의 욕망에 의한 것이라 하겠다. 이주 문학의 창의성은 바로 여기에 근거하고 있었던 것이다.

영문 초록

This study set out to examine expansive aspects of Lee Ju including his learning process, ideological tendency, viewpoint of literature, daily life in his works, and formal characteristics of his literature by making a start with the nature of his materials. This process resulted in the identification of a very important author hardly known in the academic circles. Lee Ju seemed to have been influenced by Jang Hyeon-gwang and Jeong Gu to some degree. He studied Neo-Confucian cosmology from Jang Hyeon-gwang and the order of a country society from Jeong Gu. He was open in the ideological aspect. That is, he was very open to Taoism and Buddhism while keeping his orientation toward Neo-Confucian cosmology. He especially quoted from Buddhist scriptures, exercising his considerably free imagination. His ideological openness allowed him to exert his special abilities in the literary aspect, which is why his literature was characterized by sophisticated and splendid beauty of Buseom rather than the aesthetics of Gojol. He invested a lot of effort in literature because of this viewpoint of literature. Based on his experimental spirit, his literature had distinctive characteristics in the form aspect, as well. He wrote long poems to deliver his experiential facts realistically, serial poems to turn his precise observations of things into works systematically, and poems in various styles to show various forms. This experimental spirit of his found in his literature was driven by his desire to escape from the uniform nature of classical Chinese poems. The creativity of his literature is rooted in it.
