국문 초록

본 연구는 간접금융 및 정책자금의 의존도가 높은 국내 중소기업의 재무적 제약조건을 반영하여, 해당 제약이 기업의 현금보유에 미치는 영향을 기업재무의 주요 연구주제인 현금보유동기 관점에서 실증적으로 분석하였다. 분석결과를 통한 주요 확인사항은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 시설자금용도로 지원되는 정책자금 대출의 경기순응성이 국내 중소기업 자금차입의 주요 재무적 제약으로 인식되는 가운데, 해당 요인의 심화는 기업의 현금보유 유인으로 작용하는 것으로 나타났다. 해당 분석결과는 Hovakimian, Titman(2003), Acharya, Almeida, Campello(2007), Bates, Kahle, Stulz(2009)의 연구결과를 지지하는 것으로 해석된다. 둘째, 기업의 현금보유동기로서 규모의 차이도 통계적으로 유의한 요인임이 확인되었다. 즉, 상대적으로 규모가 큰 중소기업의 경우 현금보유동기가 존재하는 것으로 확인되었는데, 이는 Kim, Mauer, Sherman(1998), Harford(1999) 등의 선행연구를 지지한다. 셋째, 영업활동에서의 현금흐름 증가는 중소기업의 높은 현금보유로 나타났다. 결론적으로 시설자금 대출의 경기순응성이라는 재무적 제약이 기회비용이라고 인식되는 현금보유와 관련성이 있다는 점에서 시설자금 지원 확대를 위한 정책이 필요하다고 사료된다.

영문 초록

This study analyzes the effect of high dependence on indirect financing and policy funds that is recognized as financial constraint on the motivation of cash holdings of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in terms of the research topic of corporate finance. Main test results are as follows. First, the pro-cyclicality on policy loan for equipment investment is regarded as financial constraint in SME financing, and it affects the motivation of cash holdings of SMEs. This evidence is line with the research of Hovakimian, Titman (2003), Archarya, Campello (2007), and Bates, Kahle, Stulz (2009). Second, size effect is a significantly influential factor on the motivation of cash holding. Thus, SMEs with a relatively large size tend to maintain the high level of cash. This evidence supports the arguments of Kim, Mauer, Sherman (1998) and Harford (1999). Third, high operating cash flow results in high level of cash holding. As a result, the policy steps to make the government financial supports for equipment investment expanded in that financial constraint, the pro-cyclicality of policy loan, is related with the motivation of cash holding, the opportunity cost in SMEs, should be arranged.
