장애노인 자살생각 영향요인

국문 초록

본 연구는 장애와 노화라는 이중 위험에 처해있는 장애노인의 자살생각에 영향을 미치는 요인을 분석함으로써 이차적인 자살예방을 위한 개입 방안을 모색하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 이를 위해 2014년에 실시된 제9차 장애인 실태조사에 참여자 중 65세 이상 2,759명의 장애노인을 대상으로 이들의 심리적·신체적 건강 관련 변수, 사회적지지 및 인구사회학적 변수, 그리고 장애 관련 변수가 자살생각에 미치는 영향에 대한 다중로지스틱회귀분석을 실시하였다. 분석결과 장애노인 중 약 22%가 지난 1년 동안 자살생각을 한 경험이 있는 것으로 나타나 자살생각의 위험이 높은 집단으로 나타났다. 또한 독거노인인 경우, 장애를 갖게 된 기간이 5년 미만인 경우에 자살생각 위험이 높았고, 우울을 경험한 경우, 스트레스 수준이 높은 경우, 자신의 건강상태에 대해 좋지 않다고 생각할수록, 그리고 만성질환 수가 많은 경우에 자살생각을 할 확률이 높은 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 연구결과를 바탕으로 자살생각의 위험성을 높이는 요인들에 대해 개입함으로써 장애노인들의 자살생각을 낮추고 자살을 예방할 수 있는 방안들을 제시하였다.

영문 초록

With a growing number of elderly with disabilities and the rapid increase in suicide rates among the elderly in Korean society, this study was set out to identify factors associated with their suicidal ideation. The study used the Korean national survey of individuals with disability 2014 (9th wave) for analyses. Data from a total of 2,759 individuals aged over 65 years were used to identify potential determinants of suicidal ideation and multiple logistic regression analyses were conducted. The result shows that an alarming figure of 22 percent of the elderly had thoughts about suicide in the past year, and those living alone, had disability for less than five years, experienced a high level of stress, depressed, and relatively unhealthy elderly with more chronic illness and lower self-rated health were more likely to think about suicide than their counterparts. These findings call for a need to develop various preventive measures in working with the elderly, particularly those who became disabled in recent years.
