한국어 시각단어 재인시 표기와 음운의 영향에 대한 사건관련 뇌파 증거

국문 초록

시각단어재인 과정을 시간대별로 관찰하기 어려운 행동연구들은 대체로 한국어 시각단어 재인시 음운정보의 역할이 제한적이라는 결과를 보고하고 있다. 그러나 단어재인의 순차적 처리단계를 시간적 추이별로 관찰할 수 있는 사건관련 뇌파 연구결과들은 한국어 시각단어 재인시에도 음운정보가 자동적으로 활성화 될 가능성을 제안하고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 기존의 행동연구와 유사한 짧은 시간(60ms) 동안 점화자극을 제시하는 점화 패러다임을 적용한 뇌파연구를 통해 한국어 시각단어 재인시 표기와 음운정보의 영향에 대해 살펴보고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 19명의 실험참가자들의 표기일치 점화조건과 음운일치 점화조건의 뇌파 파형을 통제 조건의 뇌파 파형과 비교하였다. 그 결과 표기 형태의 중첩에 따른 차이는 N/P150에서 발견되었으나 N250에서 음운정보의 영향에 따른 차이는 나타나지 않았다. 이러한 결과는 한국어 시각단어 재인시 음운정보의 역할이 제한적이라는 행동연구들과 일치하며 또한 최근에 음운정보가 자동적으로 활성화 될 가능성을 제안하고 있는 뇌파연구 결과들의 해석에는 신중을 기할 필요가 있다는 것을 제안하였다.

영문 초록

While most of studies with behavioral reaction time method suggested limited role of the phonological information in Korean visual word recognition, recent studies with more sensitive event related potential (ERP) method proposed possibilities of the effective use of phonological information during Korean visual word recognition processes. Therefore, this study aimed to examine whether the phonological priming effect can be observed in a ERP study when experimental design that resembles previous behavioral studies examining the role of the phonological information was adapted. To do so, ERPs of the 19 participants were collected while they perform a 60ms primed LDT task. While the results showed a clear effect of the orthographically identical prime in N/P150, the phonologically identical prime did not affect the modulation of N250. The results are in line with the behavioral studies reporting limited role of the phonological information in Korean visual word recognition.
