비모수 분위수 인과관계 검정을 이용한 최종에너지 소비와 경제성장의 관계 분석

국문 초록

본 연구에서는 전통적인 그랜저 인과관계 검정과 비모수 분위수 인과관계 검정을 이용하여 최종에너지원별 소비와 경제성장 간의 관계를 분석하였다. 분석대상은 국내 석탄, 석유, 신재생에너지의 전체 소비변화율과 1인당 실질GDP 변화율이며, 분석기간은 1999년 1월부터 2017년 12월까지이다. 전통적인 그랜저 인과관계 검정에서는 경제성장률이 석탄과 신재생 에너지의 소비변화율을 인과하지만 역의 관계는 성립하지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 한편 비모수 분위수 인과관계 검정에서는 중위수 0.5를 포함하는 중간수준의 분위에서 경제성장률이 모든 최종에너지원의 소비변화율을 인과하는 것으로 나타났지만, 양측 분위에서는 두 변수들 간의 인과관계가 나타나지 않았다. 그리고 모든 분위에서 최종에너지의 소비변화율이 경제성장률을 인과하지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 따라서 우리나라의 경우 에너지 소비의 증가가 경제성장을 견인한다는 성장가설보다는 경제성장이 에너지 소비를 견인한다는 보전가설이 보다 잘 성립한다고 볼 수 있다. 이러한 결과는 정부가 에너지 소비를 변화시키는 전환정책을 시행하더라도 경제성장에는 영향을 미치지않을 수 있다는 것을 의미한다.

영문 초록

This study analyzes the relationship between final energy consumption and economic growth using traditional Granger causality test and nonparametric quantile causality test. We used total consumption changes of coal, petroleum, renewable energy and GDP per capita rates. The analysis period is from January 1999 to December 2017. In the traditional Granger causality test, the economic growth rate is causally related to the rate of changes in consumption of coal and renewable energy, but not inversely. On the other hand, in the nonparametric quantile causality test, the economic growth rate was causally related to the rate of changes in consumption of all energy sources in the intermediate level quintile, which included the median of 0.5, but there was no causal relationship between the two variables near the end quantiles of both sides. It means that, in Korea, the conservation hypothesis is established more than the growth hypothesis. Also it suggests that even if the government implements the energy transition policy that changes energy consumption, it may not have any impact on economic growth.
