Measuring Public Willingness to Pay for CO2 Reduction by CO2 Capture and Storage in Korea

영문 초록

To reduce CO2 emission, Korean government has a plan to invest CO2 capture and storage (CCS). As it is less developed and less familiar than other CO2 reduction technologies such as renewable energies, many decision makers are interested in the benefits of CCS. Therefore, this study estimated public’s willingness to pay for the benefits of CO2 reduction by CCS. According to estimation results, the average MWTP for the 1 % reduction of CO2 emission reduction target by CCS is 276.75 won. And the average MWTP for creating 1,000 new employees is 230.11 won. For research purposes, this study tried to employ the choice experiment to estimate the benefits of CCS of Asian advanced developing countries. From a policy decision-making, this study gives the useful information for implementing more appropriate policies with CCS.
