국문 초록

영화 기생충 오리지널 사운드 트랙(OST)은 영화가 그려내고자 한 ‘계층’의 의미를 핵심 개념으로 반영하여 그 음악적인 구성을 펼쳤다. 그리고 전체를 관통하는 음악적 질감으로서 바로크 스타일을 표현해냈고, 이는 블랙코미디적인 영화의 성격과 화면 구성, 주인공들의 이미지 및 연기와 맥락을 같이 하여 영화의 드라마틱한 극적 전개를 함께 이끌어냈다. 본고는 영화 기생충 OST에 나타나는 음악적 은유가 영화의 주제 그리고 전개와 어떻게 연결되는지를 살펴본다. 계단식 음형의 진행은 ‘계층’을 상징하고 있으며, 영화 전반부를 통해 상승하는 음형으로 플롯과 감정 선을 표현하고 있다. 영화 후반부에서 지속적으로 하강하는 이미지는 OST에서 하강하는 저음 멜로디 진행을 따라 함께 흘러간다. 연구는 각 시퀀스와 장면에서 이러한 상승과 하강의 이미지가 음악 구성으로 어떻게 전개되는지를 분석한다. 이를 통해 영화에서 음악의 역할을 재조명하고, 새로운 발전과 도약의 자리에 서 있는 한국영화와 영화음악의 현재 위치를 들여다보게 될 것이다.

영문 초록

The film PARASITE utilizes musical composition and development to reflect the meanings of “classes” throughout. For the texture of the entire original score, composer Jung and director Bong chose “Baroque style” as a representative musical characteristic in the film. The concept of “pretending Baroque music” harmonized with the characteristics of black comedy, one of the styles adopted in the film, led to dramatic developments that connect to the “mise en scène” and performance of starring actors. This article examines the relationship between musical metaphor and theme message of the film in connection to its plot. The step-wise progressions in the original sound track(OST) symbolize classes; ascending progressions composed for the beginning to the middle part of the film express the emotion and plot of those parts, whereas images of descent flow with descending progressions in the latter half of the film. This study analyzes how the music composition of the OST connects to images of ascent and descent in each sequence and scene in PARASITE. Eventually, this paper illuminates the essential role of a sound track, and the possible capacity of Korean films and film music.
