융복합은 어디에서 시작되는가

국문 초록

본 논문은 융복합 연구·교육자들이 갖추어야 할 학문적 자세와 실천이라는 본질적인 문제를 다룬다. 최근 들어 융복합 담론은 양적으로 확대되었으나 대부분의 연구는 융복합의 기능적 접근을 다루었다. 게다가 융복합 추세 자체가 학계 내부의 요청이 아니라 산업계와 정부에서 먼저 제기된 것임에도 학계에서 이를 수용하는 과정에서 충분한 성찰과 조탁의 과정이 결여되었음을 지적한다. 이에 본 논문은 융복합이란 비단 현재의 이슈가 아니라 모든 학문 역사의 순환적 과정일 뿐이며, 융복합의 목표 역시 오늘날의 지식산업사회가 요구하는 새로운 기술이라는 유용성을 추구하는데 두기보다는 자유와 삶의 의미를 제고하는 데 두어야 한다고 주장한다. 이를 위해 본 논문은 현재 진행 중인 융복합 연구·교육의 우수 사례를 분석하여 이 가운데에서 보이는 바 융복합 연구·교육자가 가져야 할 자세로 진영논리에 매몰되지 않고, 타 학문에 대한 경외와 호기심을 유지하고, 열정을 포기하지 않는 창의적 접근방식을 들었다. 이런 배경에서 본 논문은 인문학과 첨단 IT기술이 접목되어 디지털 생태계에서 바람직한 인간상을 구현할 수 있는 생애주기 교육과정의 모델을 제시하였다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to suggest who we, researchers and teachers working on the convergence-based fields, must be. Recently, studies on the convergence have been proliferated in quantity. Nevertheless, most of them treat the convergence in its functional, strategical meaning. The needs of convergent technologies came from the industrial fields, and introduced to academy by the governmental initiative, not from and through the inner awake of the humanities. The original convergence movement was introduced by so-called NBIC(Nanotechnology, Biotechnology, Information technology, Cognitive science), and has been aiming at the utility only. The aims should be more refined in campus: the meaning of freedom and life. In order to fulfill this humanistic goal, the researcher and teachers are required to have some points in mind. The convergence is not a new notion in the academic history. Furthermore, it is not the goal: all disciplines were convergent at their beginning. To ensure the true convergence, we should get rid of the barrier that separates disciplines, which might seem undermine our ‘exclusiveness’. Even more, to develop our own discipline, we should be akin to other ones and respect them. The last point is to be awake and keep curiosity. This article suggests as conclusion a life-long educational program on digital humanities designed on these basis.
