‘하백녀 유화’ 연구사에 대한 비판적 고찰

국문 초록

하백녀의 정체성에 관한 연구는 하백녀가 유화라는 믿음에 균열을 만든다. 하백녀에 대한 연구는 ①하백녀는 유화가 아니다 ②하백녀는 웅녀다 ③하백녀는 웅녀가 아니라 ‘유화’다로 정리된다. ①은 이마니시 류가 창안했고 이 논리를 발전시켜 미시나 아키히데는 ②의 논리를 생산했다. 비교적 최근 연구는 하백녀는 유화가 아닌데, 왜 아닌가에 초점이 맞춰진다. 이것은 이마니시 류와 미시나 아키히데의 논리를 발전시킨 것으로 ③하백녀는 웅녀가 아니라 ‘유화’다가 그것이다. 하백녀는 ‘유화’인데 본래부터 유화라는 이름이 아니라 북방민족의 영향을 받아 그들이 숭배하는 버드나무 숭배사상이 주몽설화에 더해져서 하백녀가 후대에 이름을 얻어 ‘유화’가 되었다는 것이다. 하백녀 정체성과 관련된 위의 연구들은 고조선의 역사와 고구려의 천하관을 동시에 부정하기 위해 만든 논리다. 우리 고대사 왜곡에 앞장섰던 일제는 조선총독부를 앞세워 한반도 한사군설과 임나일본부설을 만들었다. 이러한 설은 우리 민족은 고대로부터 이민족의 지배를 받았으며 일본의 식민지배를 정당화한다. 한반도 한사군설과 임나일본부설에 짝이 되는 신화 해석의 틀이 미시나 아키히데가 만든 북방전래설과 남방전래설이다. 남방전래설은 한반도 남쪽 설화에, 북방전래설은 고구려 건국신화에 영향을 미쳤다는 것이다. 이것은 우리민족의 타율성으로 귀착된다. 그러나 이러한 신화 해석의 틀은 그대로 수용하여 확대 재생산 하고 있다. 총론에서는 비판하면서 각론에서는 수용하는 모습도 보인다. 이는 일제 식민사학자들이 만들어 놓은 신화 해석의 틀을 ‘절대 이론’으로 인식하고 있음의 증거이자 우리 스스로 타자의 시각으로 우리 신화를 해석해 왔음을 말한다.

영문 초록

A study on the identity of Habaeknyeo cracks the belief that Habaeknyeo is Yuhwa. In other words, Habaeknyeo-related studies are summarized as follows: i) Habaeknyeo is not Yuhwa, ii) Habaeknyeo is Ungnyeo, and iii) Habaeknyeo is Yuhwa, not Ungnyeo. The logic I (‘Habaeknyeo is not Yuhwa’) was designed by Imanishi Ryu. It was developed into the logic II (‘Habaeknyeo is Ungnyeo’) by Mishina Akihide. Recent studies have focused on the logic of ‘Habaeknyeo is not Yuhwa. Why?’ This logic ‘Habaeknyeo is Yuhwa, not Ungnyeo’ was developed from the logic of Imanishi Ryu or Mishina Akihide. Habaeknyeo would be called ‘Yuhwa.’ Influenced by northern tribes, willow worship was added to Jumong Myth. As a result, ‘Habaeknyeo’ was named. In the above studies on the identity of Habaeknyeo, logic was developed to deny the history of Gojoseon and World View of Goguryeo at the same time. Japanese army which was ruthless in distorting the ancient history of Korea introduced ‘Theory of the Han Commanderies’ and ‘Theory of Imnailbonbu’ through Japanese Government General of Korea. These theories justify Japan’s colonization of Korea, insisting that Korean people had already been ruled by other countries since the ancient times. The bases for the analysis of the myths relating to ‘Theory of the Han Commanderies’ and ‘Theory of Imnailbonbu’ are ‘Theory of Bukbangjeollae’ and ‘Theory of Nambangjeollae.’ The former means that they had an influence on the Founding Myth of Goguryeo Dynasty while the latter represents that they had an effect on the myths in the southern part of the Korean Peninsula. After all, these theories come down to the heteronomy of Korea. However, they have been accepted without filtering and even been reproduced. Even though there has been criticism in general studies, they would be accepted in particular studies, which proves that the basis for the analysis of myths designed by Japanese colonial historians has been perceived as ‘absolute theory,’ and that Korean people have interpreted their myth from Japan’s perspective.
