국문 초록

이 글은 염상섭의「새울림」과「지평선」연작을 중심으로 작가의 시대의식과 ‘임시수도 부산’이 서사화되는 양상을 분석했다. 염상섭은 동일 인물들이 연작인 취우의 ‘적치하 서울’에서 ‘임시수도 부산’으로 이동하면서 변화하는 모습을 통해 전쟁으로 인한 충격이 사람들에게 미친 영향을 서사적 차원에서 그려내고자 했다. 취우에서 ‘적치하 서울’이라는 시공간이 실질적인 주인공의 역할을 맡고 있듯, ‘임시수도 부산’은「새울림」과「지평선」에서 중요한 역할을 맡는다. ‘임시수도 부산’의 임의적이고 일시적인 특성은 인물 및 인물들 간의 관계에 영향을 미치며, 전시 원조와 전후 재건에 대한 작가의 시대의식은 이 시공간을 중심으로 펼쳐진다. 또한 이 시기 미국의 원조단체인 CAC와 UNKRA의 성격 및 현실적인 한계는「새울림」과「지평선」 연작의 서사적 균열을 야기한다. 이로 인해 「새울림」이 미국의 원조와 전후 재건에 대한 현실인식이 주된 이야기라면, 「지평선」은 동아상 사를 중심으로 한 주체적 재건의 시도와 미국의 동아시아 전략 및 냉전 이데올로기 체제가 그려진다. 「새울림」과 「지평선」에 등장하는 여성인물들은 거래와 교환의 주체 또는 매개로 묘사되며 전쟁기 한국이 처한 상황을 비유한다. 특히 두 여성인물의 상반된 선택과 지향을 통해 이 시기 작가의식을 발견할 수 있다.

영문 초록

This thesis analyzed the aspect of the author’s concept of the times and narrative of ‘temporary capital Busan’ centered on Yeom sang-seob’s Saeoulim and Jipyeongseon series. Yeom sang-seob tried to portray the impact of war on people from narrative aspect. Therefore, same character in series of Chuiwoo changed as the story moved from the fall of seoul to temporary capital busan. As the space-time, the fall of seoul practically plays the main protagonist in Chuiwoo, temporary capital Busan plays important role in Saeoulim and Jipyeongseon. The arbitrary and transitory nature of the temporary capital Busan influences the relationship between the characters and the characters, and the author’s concept of the times in the wartime aid and postwar reconstruction is centered on this time and space. At the same time, the character and realistic limitations of CAC and UNKRA, the American aid agencies, cause narrative fissures of a series in Saeoulim and Jipyeongseon The female characters in the “Saeoulim” and “Jipyeongseon” are portrayed as the subject or medium of trade and exchange, and they help to show the situation of Korea in time of war. Especially, two main female characters in the series are making opposite choice and orient at different direction, which reflects the consciousness of the author in this time period.
