이해조 신소설에 나타난 하위주체의 발화양상

국문 초록

이 글은 이해조의 신소설 「구마검」, 「화의 혈」두 작품에서, 개화기에 여성을 포함하여 중심 권력에서 벗어나 있는 사람들의 발화가 어떤 방식으로 발화 형식과 발화 권한을 획득하게 되는지의 문제에 주목했다. 이해조의 이 두 편의 신소설은 개화기의 다양한 서사 양식의 출현과 실험 과정에서, 특히 이전에 한문과 유교적 가치가 지배하던 언어와 정치, 담론의 중심에서 멀리 떨어진 주변부에 존재하던 “하위주체”들이 공적인 영역에서 자신들의 목소리를 내고자 할 때, 그들의 말이 어떤 매개를 통해 발화되는지와 관련하여 흥미로운 시사점을 제공한다. 기존 연구에서는 이 두 작품에 대한 작가의 의도를 대체로 전근대적인 요소에 대한 비판과 근대적 제도에 대한 옹호로 이해했다. 그러나 이 글은 그와 같은 시각으로 작가의 의도를 읽는 방식을 유보하고, 이 작품들에서 새로운 발화의 주체와 양식의 문제를 읽어내고자 했다. 특히 굿판에서 뒤섞이는 여러 인물의 욕망과 목소리, 그리고 빙의를 통해 공적인 영역에서 억울함을 소명( 疏明 )하는 방식은 하위주체들 이 발화 권한을 획득하는 방식으로서 중요하게 다뤄져야 한다고 판단했다. 따라서 이와 같은 문제의식에서, 이 두 작품이 안고 있는 균열의 지점은, 새로운 말하기와 글쓰기에 대한 고민을 내재하고 있는 것으로 의미화할 만하다. 즉, 개화기의 문학 작품이 신문과 같이 좀 더 넓은 범위의 유통망을 갖게 된 상황에서, 여성을 포함 하여 주변부에 있던 인물들이 공적 영역에서 자신들의 욕망을 드러내고, 의사를 전달하기 위해서 이전과는 다른 말하기 방식을 필요로 하게 되었고, 그들이 발화의 권위를 갖는 한 방식으로 남성의 목소리를 빌리거나 비가시적이고, 비합리적이라고 해서 배제됐던 요소들과 결합하는 형식을 취했을 수 있다.

영문 초록

This article focused on the question of how speaking of people who are free from central power, including women in the time of enlightenment, gain the type of speaking and power of speaking in these two ‘sinsosul’ written by Lee Haejo, “Gumageom” and “The blood of Flower”. These two ‘sinsosul’ of Lee Haejo in the emergence and experimentation of various narrative styles of the Enlightenment period, especially when the “subaltern”(sub-subjects) that existed in the periphery far from the center of language, politics, and discourse, try to express themselves in the realm, offer interesting implications as to what mediates their utterance. In the previous research, other researchers have understood the author s intention on these two works as a criticism of the pre-modern elements and a defense of the modern system. However, this article reserves the way of reading the intention of the writer with such a viewpoint and tried to understand the issue of the subject and style of the new speaking in these works. Especially, the desire and voice of the various characters who are mixed up in Gudpan(a ceremony for exorcism or good fortune), and the way of calling the oppression or resentment in the public sphere through the possession (by a spirit), should be significantly treated as the way in which subordinate subjects acquire the authority of speaking. Therefore, in this sense of awareness, the point of the cracks held by these two works is meaningful as having the deliberation about new speaking and writing. In other words, the literary works of the time of enlightenment have a broader distribution network such as newspapers, so that the characters in the marginal areas, including women, to reveal their desires and express their opinion in the public sphere, in such a way that they had the authority of speaking, they may borrow a male voice or have taken the form of combining with elements that were excluded by being regarded as invisibility and irrationality.
