한국노년문학과 말년성(lateness)의 지형학 - 노년문학연구의 비판적 검토와 논의 확장을 위한 시론(試論)

국문 초록

이 논문은 한국노년문학 연구가 사회학의 하위학문인 노년학의 관점에 국한되어 있다는 사실에 대한 비판에서 출발한다. 노년학에 기댄 노년문학 연구에서 노년은 푸코의 ‘생명관리권력’(biopower)의 객체로 전락하고 마는 경향이 있었기 때문이다. 때문에 이 글은 신체적 연령이라는 단선적 기준을 넘어서기 위해 ‘말년성’의 개념을 도입하였다. ‘말년성’은 죽음을 마주보는 정서적 개념으로서 나이와 무관한 것으로 이해할수 있다. 이 개념은 ‘노년’을 청년과 대별되는 타자의 위치가 아니라, 청년과 노년을 포괄하는 실존의 위치로 옮겨오도록 한다. 말년성의 지형학은 4가지 유형으로 구성된다. ① <육체=청년> & <사 유=청년>, ② <육체=청년> & <사유=말년>, ③ <육체=말년> & <사유 =말년>, ④ <육체=말년> & <사유=청년>. 육체와 정신이라는 두 개의 축이 교차됨으로써 만들어진 4가지 유형은 한국 노년문학을 조망할 수있는 ‘말년성’의 지형학을 구성한다. 이것은 노년을 타자화된 자리에서 벗어나도록 고안된 지형학이면서, 근본적으로는 노년문학의 좁은 범주를 벗어나 ‘말년성’이라는 죽음의식과, 그것에 반응하는 문학의 정신성으 로써 한국현대문학사를 규명하고자 하는 방법론적 시론(試論)에 해당한 다.

영문 초록

This paper starts with a critique of the fact that the studies on Korean old-age Literature are limited to the viewpoint of sociology, a sub-discipline of sociology. Because studies on old age literature, relying on gerontology, tended to fall into object of Foucault s “biopower”. This article introduces the concept of “lateness” to go beyond the monotonic standards of physical age. ‘Lateness’ is an emotional concept that faces death, and is not related to age. Therefore, “old age” should be shifted to the position of existence encompassing youth and old age, not the position of the other who is excluded from youth. The topography of ‘lateness’ consists of four types. ① & , ② & , ③ & , ④ & . The four types created by crossing the two axes of body and mind constitute the topography of the “lateness” that can see the Korean old-age literature. This is a topography designed to get old age out of the other s position. At the same time, it fundamentally goes beyond the narrow category of old-age literature, and corresponds to a methodological viewpoint that seeks to identify Korean modern literary history through the death consciousness of ‘lateness’ and the spirituality of literature responding to ‘lateness.
