국문 초록

이 연구는 한국 현대연극사의 흐름을 이해하기 위한 작업의 하나로, 한국전쟁 이후 불황과 침체의 연속상황을 겪으면서도 1960년대 현대 연극의 부흥을 이룰 수 있었던 중요한 이유로 󰡔사상계󰡕의 존재를 주목해야 한다는 것에 초점을 둔다. 전쟁의 폐허를 딛고 일어난 1950년대 후반 에서 1960년대에 이르는 시기는 한국연극의 르네상스기 또는 현대연극의 출발기라 부를 정도로 연극계가 활기를 찾게 되는데 고려대와 연세 대를 중심으로 한 대학극의 성행과 동인제 극단의 활동이 두드러진다.또 미국 중심의 선진 연극문화를 접한 연구자와 비평가들의 활동이, 침체해 있던 전후 연극계에 활력을 불어넣는 중요한 역할을 한다. 따라서 쏟아지는 서구의 연극이론과 공연문화를 소개하거나 또 국내 연극계의 동향을 알리며 분석할 연극전문지의 필요가 더욱 절실했던 시기라고 할수 있다. 하지만 광복 후 ≪희곡문학≫이 잠깐 나왔을 뿐 1950년대에는 연극전문지를 전혀 찾아볼 수 없으며 1965년 겨우 선보인 계간지 ≪연 극≫도 결국 재정난으로 두 번 만에 출간이 중단된다. 이렇듯 ‘연극전문지 공백기’라 할 수 있는 1950, 60년대에 문예전문지도 아닌 종합잡지 󰡔사 상계󰡕의 연극관련 논문과 선진연극이론 수용 양상은 참으로 흥미롭다고 하겠다. 󰡔사상계󰡕는 창간해인 1953년부터 꾸준히 창작희곡 작품과 번역희곡 또는 선진 연극이론 등을 게재하고 있는데 발행부수가 최고에 이르는 4.19를 즈음하여 연극관련 글의 양 역시 눈에 띄게 많아지면서 󰡔사상계󰡕 발행 부수와 같은 곡선을 그리는 특징을 보인다. 이 연구는 󰡔사상계󰡕 에 게재된 희곡작품과 희곡관련 논문, 극 비평 수록 양상을 살펴봄으로써 195,60년대 한국연극사의 지형을 점검해 보는 의미가 있다. 연구의 객관성을 위해 󰡔사상계󰡕가 존재하던 동시대의 대표 순문예지 󰡔현대문학󰡕의 극문학 관련 글의 수록 양상과 ≪조선일보≫, ≪동아일보≫ 등의 일간지에서 다룬 극문학 기사를 대조군으로 활용했 음을 밝힌다.

영문 초록

This study is one of the tasks to understand the flow of the korean modern theater, which focuses on the existence of the 󰡔Sasangye󰡕 despite of the recession and depression after the Korean War, which is the main reason for the revival of the modern theater in the 1960s. Overcoming the ravages of war, In the period from the late 1950s to the 1960s, the theatrical circles is so active that it is called the Renaissance or the start of modern theater in Korea, and the prevalence of academic dramas based on Korea University and Yonsei University and the activities of the theatrical company are outstanding. Also, the activities of researchers and critics who come in contact with the advanced theater culture centered in the United States play a major role in revitalizing the postwar theatrical circles depressed. Accordingly, It can be said that it was the time when the need of professional theater magazines became more desperate, introducing so many western theater theories and performing culture, informing and analyzing the trends of the Korean theater circles. But, just after the liberation of Korea, the theatrical magazine, the ≪Play Literature≫ came out briefly, but the professional theater magazines couldn t be found anything later in the 1950s. In 1965, only quarterly magazine, the ≪Theater≫ was released barely, and finally, it was discontinued due to financial difficulties after twice publications. Like this, In the 1950s and 1960s, which is what we would call the barren period of the professional theater magazines, it is very interesting to note that the 󰡔Sasangye󰡕, which was not the literary coterie magazine but the general magazines, accepted the theater theses and the advanced theater theories. The 󰡔Sasangye󰡕, from 1953, the first publication year, has published consistently creative plays and translation plays and the advanced theater theories. In the peak of circulation, on the occasion of ‘4.19’(1960), the amount of theater writing is also noticeably increased, showing an unusual aspect of drawing curve similar to the 󰡔Sasangye󰡕 circulation. This study is meant to examine the topography of Korean theater history in the 1950s and 1960s by looking into the plays, plays theses and the critical aspects published in the 󰡔Sasangye󰡕. For the objectivity of the study, aspects of writtings in the 󰡔Hyundae-MoonHak󰡕, which was representative pure literary magazine and journal articles on dramatic literature on the ≪Chosun Ilbo≫, the ≪Dong-A Ilbo≫, and other daily newspapers are used as the contrast groups with the 󰡔Sasangye󰡕
