읽기성취 수준별 어휘능력과 읽기이해력 간의 관계 분석

국문 초록

본 연구는 서울, 대구 지역의 8개 초등학교 6학년 524명을 대상으로 어휘 및 읽기 이해 검사를 실시하고 어휘와 읽기이해 변인 간 구체적인 관계를 규명하기 위해 정준상관분석을 실시하였다. 본 연구를 통해 도출된 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 일반집단의 경우 어휘에 대한 명시적 정의와 상황적 맥락에 대한 이해가 높을수록 사실적 읽기이해 능력이 높은 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 어휘의 명시적 정의에 대한 이해가 높지만, 형태소 분석을 어려워하는 읽기 저성취 집단 학생일수록 사실적 이해 능력은 낮고, 추론적 이해 능력이 높은 것으로 나타났다. 이와 같은 결과를 바탕으로 연령이 증가함에 따라 심화되는 학습내용으로 인해 학생들이 경험하는 읽기 어려움을 예방하고 중재하는데 필요한 교육적 함의를 도출하고 논의하였다.

영문 초록

This research study examined certain pertinent correlational relationships among vocabulary and reading comprehension skill variables. In this attempt, vocabulary and reading comprehension assessment inventories were administered to sixth grade students, followed by Canonical Correlation Analysis(CCA) for better accuracy. Findings indicate the following. First, in the general population group, the higher level of understanding of explicit definition and situational context clues in vocabulary acquisition, the higher level of literal reading comprehension skills was observed. Second, in the underachieving population group, the higher level of explicit definition yet accompanying difficulties in morphological structure analysis in vocabulary acquisition, the lower level of literal reading comprehension skills and relatively higher level of inferential reading comprehension skills were observed. Based on the results, educational implications for effective prevention/intervention plans for students at various levels were discussed.
