이옥 전(傳)에 나타난 비관적 세계관의 문학교육적 의미와 가치 연구

국문 초록

본고는 그동안의 고전문학교육에서 학습자의 삶과 문학이 충분히 소통하지 못하 고 있음을 주목하면서 출발한다. 특히 고전산문교육에서 행복한 결말과 성공적 이야 기를 중심으로 하는 작품이 지속적으로 활용되고 있는데 불행한 삶과 부정적 감정 들이 실린 작품을 통해 다양한 가치관과 정서를 학습하는 경험이 학습자들에게 필 요함을 주지하고 이에 대한 대상으로 이옥의 전(傳)을 주목하였다. 이옥은 불우한 생애를 살며 자신이 겪었던 감정들을 문학작품으로 승화시켰고, 특히 전(傳) 작품에는 그러한 점이 잘 드러나 있다. 따라서 본고는 이옥의 25편의 전 (傳)에 나타나는 작가의식과 세계관을 살펴보고, 이에 나타난 비관성이 ‘작가 자신→ 타인 → 사회’ 로 점점 심화 확대되는 양상을 띠고 있음을 밝혀냈다. 이러한 비관적 세계관은 학습자들에게 ‘자기 슬픔 치유의 효과’, ‘타인에 대한 관심과 공감능력 향 상’, ‘공동체 의식과 사회적 문제 의식 고양’이라는 문학교육적 의미와 가치를 가질 수 있다.

영문 초록

This thesis started with the attention to that the learners lives and literary experience do not fully communicate each other in classical literature education. The Korean classical prose texts in middle and high school are almost about happy ending, success story and Confucian values of heroes or main characters. But learners experience tragic feelings such as frustration and sorrow in their real life. So, this study takes notice to the negative, pessimistic, and tragic viewpoint of Korean classical literature, shed light on the literary educational meaning and value of them. In this regard, we gave attention to Yi Ok(1760-1815) who wrote 25 pieces of Jeon(傳) during the latter part of Joseon Dynasty. Yi Ok lived an unhappy life and sublimated his frustration into artworks. This thesis named artistic spirit and view of the world that is shown in Jeon(傳) written by Yi Ok as pessimistic view of the world and analyzed 25 pieces to examine tragic view of the world . As a result, we found that Yi Ok s view expanded from himself into other people and society. And the literary educational meaning and value are function of self sorrow healing , improvement of interest in other people and sympathy with other people , and enhancement of community sentiment and awareness of social problems . The significance of this study is as follows. First, this is helpful to extend learners’ viewpoints not only optimistic side but also pessimistic side, and what the value of pessimistic viewpoints is. Second, learners can experience several sides of lives by Yi Ok’s Jeons. Third, we suggested the new texts and genre of literature education besides novels.
