국문 초록

장신구는 과거에 권력과 주술을 상징하는 수단에서 현대에 이르러서는 인간의 미적욕구를 충족시켜주는 개성 표현의 수단으로, 의미가 확장되고 있으며 오랜 세월동안 인간과 함께한 역사성이 있다. 특히 오늘날에는 사용자의 취향에 맞는 장신구를 선호하게 되면서 조형성이 강조되어졌다. 따라서 본 연구는 장신구 디자인의 새로운 조형성을 향상시키기 위해 새로운 조형원리를 제공하고자 한다. 이에 따른 조형원리는 자연을 모티브로 하며, 다양한 조형성 도출이 가능한 자연 속의 프랙탈 현상을 선택하였다. 프랙탈 이론은 현대에 이르러서야 컴퓨터의 발달로 체계가 잡혀, 막연한 존재였던 자연 현상이 분석과 설명이 되면서 여러 분야에 활용되었다. 예술은 현시대를 반영하기에, 현대의 첨단과학이 발견한 자연 현상의 새로운 조형형태를 디자인으로 발전시킬 당위성을 갖는다. 새로운 조형원리를 위해 이론적 바탕으로는 프랙탈 기하학의 이론과 조형원리를 살펴보았다. 이론은 만델브로, 쥘리아 집합 등을 통해 정리하고, 프랙탈 기하학의 조형성(자기유사성, 불규칙성, 비선형성)과 그 속에 있는 조형원리(반복, 중첩, 왜곡)를 분석하였다. 이러한 프랙탈 기하학이 현시대에서 응용되는 사례를 정리하였고. 또 장신구 디자인에 활용된 사례들을 찾아 분석하여 디자인 적용 가능성을 확인하였으며, 여기서 고찰한 조형적인 특성들을 새로운 장신구 제작에 응용할 수 있도록 개념과 조형적 효과를 정리하였다. 프랙탈 기하학은 자연을 수학적으로 분석하고 탐구하였으나, 다양하고 독특한 조형성으로 인해 장신구 제작에서 디자인의 모티브 역할을 충분히 한다. 인간의 미적욕구가 사라지지 않는 한, 장신구는 조형예술로서 계속된 변화가 필요할 것이다. 그리하여 새로운 조형개념을 통해 다양한 디자인 창출을 시도하고 제작자가 이를 수용할 것을 본 연구를 통해 기대해본다.

영문 초록

Jewelry were used as a means to symbolize power or incantation in the past, but now, the meaning of them has been extended and they are used to satisfy our aesthetic needs and exhibit our personality. Historically, they have been with human beings for a long period. Particularly, today, users prefer jewelry fitting their taste, and formativity has become emphasized. Here, this study is going to present new formative principle in order to enhance new formativity in jewelry design. Formative principle takes nature as its motif and has selected fractal phenomena within nature from which a variety of formativities can be extracted. In this age, fractal theories have come to obtain the system with the development of computer technology. Natural phenomena deemed to be obscure previously have come to be used in many areas being analyzed and explained. Since art reflects the time, it has the appropriateness to develop the new forms of natural phenomena discovered by advanced science in this age into some sort of design. For new formative principle, this author examined as theoretical grounds the fractal theories and formative principles of fractal geometry. This researcher arranged fractal theories with Mandelbrot and Julia sets and analyzed formativity in fractal geometry (self-similarity, irregularity, nonlinearity) and formative principle within that (repetition, overlapping, distortion) to discover the effects of expression, for example, unity, stability, dynamism, and space creation. This study found and analyzed the cases applying it to formative works and jewelry design and discovered the possibility of applying it to design. To apply the formative characteristics considered here to designing new jewelry, this author arranged the concepts and formative effects. Although fractal geometry analyzed and explored nature mathematically, for its diverse and unique formativity, it plays enough roles as a motif in designing jewelry. Unless humans’ aesthetic needs disappear, jewelry need constant changes as formative arts. This author expects that with new formative concept, designs will be tried diversely, and producers will accept it.
