국문 초록

본 논문은 1968년 멕시코시티 올림픽의 공식 디자인과 거리 미술 사이의 관계와 간극을 고찰한다. 멕시코 올림픽 위원회의 수장을 맡은 페드로 라미네즈 바스케스는 이상적인 국가 이미지를 만들어내기 위해 노력했다. 올림픽 그래픽 디자인은 멕시코의 전통 예술과 옵아트와 같은 국제적 예술 양식을 훌륭하게 혼합한 것으로 평가되며, 멕시코를 더욱 매력적이고 발전된 모습으로 그려내는데 이바지하였다. 하지만 공식 디자인이 보여준 국가의 이미지는 억압적인 정부의 통치에 고통 받고 있던 멕시코인들의 실생활과는 매우 동떨어져 있었다. 다른 국가들의 68혁명과 관련된 멕시코 학생 운동은 올림픽 디자인을 차용한 정치풍자의 거칠고 강렬한 이미지들을 생산해냈다. 오륜기의 다섯 바퀴는 탱크의 바퀴로 변형되고, 1968 올림픽 마스코트인 평화의 비둘기가 총검에 찔려 죽은 이미지 등으로 제작되었다. 올림픽 개막 열흘 전인 10월 2일 뜰라뗄롤고의 삼문화 광장에서는 시위대가 처참하게 살해되었다. 학살에서 폭로된 국가 이미지의 모순에 대한 자각은 젊은 예술가들에게 영향을 주었고 멕시코 현대미술의 의미 있는 전환점을 이끌어냈다. 올림픽의 공식 디자인과 이를 전유한 거리 미술의 간극 사이에 위치한 국가 이미지는 이율배반을 드러낸다.

영문 초록

This paper aims to explore the relationship and the gap of images between the formal design of Olympic Games and the street art in 1968 of Mexico City. Pedro Ramírez Vázquez, the chief director of Mexican Olympic Committee, strived for making the ideal image of the nation. The graphic design of the Olympic regarded as successful hybrid between mexican traditional art form and the international art trend such as Op art, and contributed greatly to represent Mexico as a country more attractive and developed. But the nation s image made by the formal design was far away from the real life of mexican people who resisted the oppressive government. The mexican students movement that allied to other country s 68 revolution produced rough and strong images of political satire borrowing the formal olympic design ; 5 circles of olympic flag was transformed to a wheel of a tank. A dove of peace, 1968 olympic mascot was killed by bayonet. 10 days before of the opening of the Olympic Games, the night of October 2nd, the demonstrators in Plaza of Three cultures at Tlatelolco were massacred. The awake to the contradiction of nation s image exposed during the massacre influenced to young artists and derived significant turning point of mexican contemporary art. The nation s image located in-between the formal design of Olympic and its appropriation in the street art discloses antinomy.
