19 세기 말 전세진(田世鎭) 관련 만인산(萬人傘)과 사명기(司命旗) 연구

국문 초록

본고는 충청남도 민속문화재 제33호로 지정된 <홍성 전세진 유물> 중 만인산과 사명기를 중심으로 연구하였다. 이들 유물은 1887년부터 1890년까지 강화부사였던 전세진의 것이다. 이것들은 그의 후손이 소장하고 있다가 2011년에 홍주성역사관에 기증한 것이다. 우선, 전세진의 만인산은 조선 왕실 의례 때 사용된 우산과 구조나 형태 및 색상 등 외형이 유사하다. 유물의 상부는 금속제 보병형 꼭지, 중간 부분은 흰색 덮개와 푸른색의 2단 휘장, 하단은 대나무로 된 자루와 살대로 구성되어 있다. 그러나 이 만인산은 직물 덮개 위에 그것을 만들어준 백성 100명의 이름과 전세진의 덕을 칭송한 글귀가 수놓아져 있다. 당시 백성들이 지방 수령의 정치를 어떻게 평가했는지를 엿볼 수 있다. 이것은 19세기 말 만인산의 공통된 특징으로서 당시의 시대 양식을 반영한다. 다음, 사명기는 전세진이 수군을 지휘할 때 사용하던 유물이다. 본 유물은 목제 자루에 묶인 섬유제 깃발, 그것을 걸어두던 걸개[架子] 및 보관 상자 등 부속품까지 온전하게 구성되어 있다. 깃발은 계급을 식별할 수 있도록 청색 비단 위에 검은 천을 오려 붙였다. 걸개는 나무 판재 위에 용머리를 조각한 다음 단청문양을 그려넣고 좌우에 매듭을 늘어뜨렸다. 상자는 조선시대 목공예 기술로 제작되었다. 이에 본 연구는 조선시대 공예 기술이나 단청 등의 연구에 기여할 것으로 기대한다.

영문 초록

The study is focused on examining Maninsan and Samyeonggi among ‘Hongseong Jeon Se-jin’s Artifacts’ designated as the Folk Cultural Asset No. 33 in Chungcheongnam-do. The artifacts belonged to Jeon Se-jin who served as Ganghwa Governor from 1887 to 1890. They had been owned by his descendants before being donated to Hongjuseong History Museum in 2011. First of all, Jeon Se-jin’s Maninsan is similar to an umbrella used in royal ceremonies during the Joseon Dynasty in terms of structure or shape. It consists of an upper part that is a metal vase-shaped handle, a middle part that is a two-tier hanging with a white canopy and a lower part that is composed of a bamboo piece and a supporting rod. Names of 100 people who took part in making Maninsan and phrases admiring them are embroidered on the cover. It helps understand how people at that time estimated the way a local governor administers the affairs of state. It is the co㎜on characteristics of Maninsan at the end of the 19thcentury,whichreflectstheperiodicstyleatthattime. Meanwhile, Samyeonggi is an artifact that was used when Jeon Se-jin co㎜anded the naval forces. This artifact is composed of a flag tied to a wooden handle, a hanging and a storage box in addition to fittings. The flag was made to attach a black cloth to blue silk fabric that makes it possible to discern the hierarchical class. A dragon head was sculpted on a wood board of the hanging and patterns of many colors were drawn to form hanging knots on both sides. The box was manufactured through the use of a woodwork technique of the Joseon Dynasty. Accordingly, the study is expected to contribute to examining not only the history of politics and the naval forces but also woodwork technique and patterns of Dancheong during the Joseon Dynasty.
