중고령자의 은퇴 후 의료소비 결정요인 분석

국문 초록

근로자들의 은퇴는 임금소득 감소로 인해 소비지출에 큰 영향을 미친다. 특히, 중고령자의 은퇴는 민간의료보험 가입에 직간접적으로 영향을 미친다. 따라서 근로자의 노동시장 은퇴가 소비 중 의료소비에 어떠한 영향을 미치는 분석하였다. 분석결과, 민간의료보험 가입이 가구 전체 의료비 지출에 영향을 주지 않으며, 단위 당 의료비 지출은 외래 및 의원에서 음(−)의 영향을 주는 것으로 나타났다. 궁극적으로 은퇴자들의 민간의료보험 가입은 일부 병원(치과, 한의원) 방문 횟수를 늘리는데 총 의료비 지출에는 영향을 주지 않고, 방문 횟수 당 의료비 지출에는 외래 및 의원에서만 영향을 주게 되어 종합적으로 은퇴자들에게 있어 민간의료보험을 통한 병원비 감소가 병원 방문을 늘릴 수 있음을 확인하였다. 이는 개인 차원의 보건후생 증진을 가져오는 한편, 필요 이상의 의료소비 행위가 나타날 수 있어 사회윤리적인 측면도 함께 고려해야 한다.

영문 초록

Retirement from the work and the consequential reduction in income have a strong influence on pattern of people’s consumption expenditure. Particularly, middle-age retirement affects either directly or indirectly their decisions to take out private health insurance. This study explores how working people’s retirement from the labor force affects their medical expenses. An analysis shows that the fact that retirees have private health insurance does not affect household expenditure on medical services, and tends to have an inverse relationship with medical expenses per unit in the use of outpatient and clinic services. Ultimately, this study demonstrates that retirees’joining private health insurance may not influence their total medical expenses, except for increasing the number of times that they see a doctor in certain types of clinics (dental clinics, oriental medical clinics). In addition, it has an effect on cost per visit only when using outpatient and clinic services. To sum up, the study confirms that taking out private health insurance can make retirees possible to see a doctor more often by reducing their medical bills. This results are promoting to health welfare in personal dimension. But we should be considered that those receives more than necessary medical consumption in social ethical aspects.
