다문화텍스트의 교양교육에의 활용방안

국문 초록

본고는 지금까지의 다문화 교육이 타자에 대한 위계화된 시선을 내면화하고 있음을 지적하면서 이러한 인식의 문제가 다문화 교육 분야에서 좀 더 조심스럽게 다루어져야할 필요가 있음을 제기하고자 한다. 다문화 교육이 궁극적으로 다양한 타자가 서로를 이해 존중하며 모두가 동등한 시민의 자격으로 함께 더불어 살아갈 공동체를 형성해나가는 데 목적이 있다고 한다면, 암암리에 자신을 주류로 인식하면서 타자를 하위계층으로 대상화하는 시선을 내면화한 여러 교육 프로그램 및 정책에 대한 비판은 반드시 제기되어야 할 것이다. 특히 대학의 교양교육에서 이 문제가 깊이 있게 다루어져야 할 필요가 있을 뿐만 아니라 대학 교양교육의 방향에 대해 고심어린 논의가 오고 가는 시점에서 그 방향을 모색하는 한 방법이기도 하다는 점을 제시하고자 한다. 이에 본고는 다양한 다문화텍스트를 활용하여 교양교육의 지향점을 실현할 수 있는 방안을 모색해보았다. 교양교육으로서의 다문화교육은 ‘다양성’에 대한 수용에 그쳐서는 안 되고 타자에 대한 윤리교육이어야 한다는 점에서 먼저 ‘타자에 대한 자기 감정의 확인 및 성찰’을 진행하고, ‘연민’이나 ‘혐오’와 같은 개인 감정이 사회적 차원에서 어떻게 정치적 의미를 획득하게 되는지를 분석하는 활동들을 진행하도록 하였다. 여기서 그치지 않고 서사 텍스트를 활용하여 타자에 대해 ‘상상’적으로 공감하면서 동등한 ‘세계시민’으로서의 윤리를 함양할 수 있는 데에 까지 나아갈 수 있도록 시도해보았다. 이 과정들은 단계적 순서에 의해 진행되는 것이 아니라 <글쓰기>나 <독서 토론>, <작품 읽기>, <시민교육> 등 다양한 교양교육 과정에 유동적으로 활용될 수 있다. 본고에서 제시한 활용 방안은 개인 감정의 사회적 의미, 감정의 정치학 및 실천의 영역을 포괄하고 있다는 점에서 인지, 정의, 행위의 측면을 아우르는 융합적 교양교육의 모델이 될 수 있으며, 세계시민으로서의 윤리적 태도에 대한 교육을 지향한다는 점에서 다문화교육 및 교양교육의 방향성을 제시하는 좋은 사례가 될 수 있다고 본다.

영문 초록

This paper is intended to point out that the multi-cultural education up to now has internalized the hierarchical recognition of others and to propose the need that such a problem of recognition should be more cautiously dealt with in multi-cultural education. Supposing that the purpose of the multi-cultural education is to form a community where lots of different people ultimately understand and respect each other and all of us live together, it is essential to raise criticism on various educational programs and policies which internalized the trend of regarding others as a lower class, secretly recognizing self as the majority. Especially, this paper aims to point out that this problem not only needs to be dealt with in details in General education in a university, but also becomes a method for searching a direction at the point of time of being under in-depth discussion about the direction of General education. Accordingly, this paper looked into a method able to put the intention point of General education into practice by utilizing a variety of multi-cultural text. This paper, first of all, dealt with‘confirmation and reflection of self emotion to others’ in that multi-cultural education as General education should not accept only‘diversity’, but become ethical education for others, and did activities of analyzing how individual emotion such as ‘sympathy’ or ‘hatred’ gets to obtain a political meaning from social standpoints. In addition to that, this paper made attempt so that we, sympathizing with others through imagination with regard to others utilizing narrative text, can go forward to the extent to which we can build up ethics as equal‘global citizen’. These processes do not proceed by order by stages but can be fluidly utilized in various courses of General education including or , , , etc. The use method proposed in this paper can become a model amalgamative General education covering aspects of recognition, justice and acts in that it includes social meanings of individual emotion and politics and practice of emotion, and also can become a good example of proposing the directivity of multi-cultural and General education in that it amis for an education toward an ethical attitude as global citizen.
