이병주 소설에 나타난 시대 풍속

국문 초록

이 연구는 이병주의 대중 소설 중 1970년대를 배경으로 하고 있는 동시대에 발표된 작품을 대상 텍스트로 삼아 소설 내의 ‘공간’과 공간을 잇는 사물들의 의미를 살펴보고, 이를 통해 당대의 풍속으로서의 삶의 양식과 생활 모습을 추적해 보았다. 작품 속의 공간은 크게 도시와 농촌, 작게는 기차, 고속도로, 고소버스, 자동차 등의 이동수단으로 나타난다. 이 공간들은 모두 사회적 공간으로, 다양하고 중충적이며 상호침투적인 속성을 갖는다. 먼저, 새마을 운동을 통해 시작된 농촌주택개량사업이 공간을 분리시켜 연대를 불가능하게 했음을 살펴보았다. 이것은 국가의 필요에 의해 진행되 었으며, 이러한 과정에서 농촌에 유입된 물신화와 그 폐해, 인간성 상실과 빈부격차 등 자본, 계급적 문제가 발생하고 있음을 포착할 수 있었다. 마찬가지로 ‘농촌’과 ‘도시’ 공간을 잇는 기차, 고속버스, 고속도로, 자동차 등도 정치․사회․경제의 중층적인 영향관계에 의해 생산된 공간으로 부, 지위, 차이화 등을 비롯하여 시대적 상황과 문제를 담지하고 있었다. ‘기차’는 새로운 사회적 생산물로 인해 시대를 표상하는 사물의 의미를 잃고 배경으로 전경화 되었다. ‘기차’를 대체한 자리에 들어선 고속버스와 고속도로 건설은 영농의 영세화와 이촌 현상을 초래하고, 부락을 인위적으로 분리하여 공동체 의식을 약화시켰다. ‘자동차’는 사회적 지위를 드러내는 상징 기호임과 동시에 타자와의 차이화를 담지하고 있었다. 다음으로 도시공간을 통해 주거 공간에서 인간 까지 상품으로 변모하는 양상, 그리고 그것을 당연하게 받아들이는 당대의 생활 모습을 포착할 수 있었다. 이를테면 아파트는 도시개발정책이 은폐하고 있었던 공간의 차등화와 빈부의 불평등을 드러내고, 거주지를 재산 증식의 수단으로 여기는 인식 논리를 비롯해 부동산 업자나 자본가의 투기가 성행하는 당대의 삶의 모습을 투영하고 있었다. 아울러 자본주의 논리가 대지를 장악하고 부동산을 동산화 하는 과정 속에서 성행했던 직업들(사채업, 일수, 종합상사, 유흥업 등)은 당대의 사회․구조적 모순과 삶의 방식을 나타내고 있었다. 결국, 농촌, 도시, 농촌과 도시 공간을 잇는 다양한 이동수단은 자본주의 사회의 병리적 징후들을 드러내는 매개로, 당대의 삶의 모습과 생활양식의 변화를 드러내고 있었다. 그리고 그 심급에는 본질이 망각된 채 모든 대상을 교환 가치로 여기는 시대 인식, 즉 자본주의 논리가 내재되어 있음을 도출해 낼 수 있었다.

영문 초록

This study is an announcement that work on contemporary popular novels of the 1970s of Lee Byeong-ju the background to the target text, examined the meaning of things linking the ‘space’ and the space in the novel. And I looked to trace out the form and appearance of life as a living contemporary customs. Works inside space appears as a moving means such as rural and urban, rail, highway, sued the bus, car. The spaces are in all social space, and has a variety of alluvial interpenetration of property. First, the rural housing improvement projects initiated through the Saemaul Movement separated by a space that looked solidarity impossible. It was conducted by the country's needs, from fetishism that introduced this process in rural and evils, that humanity was able to capture such capital loss and the gap between rich and poor, and class issues are occurring. Similarly, rural ‘and’ urban 'space connecting the train, express bus, highway, car, etc. to the production area by the middle of the political, social and economic impacts related parts, status, could contain differences with contemporary situations and issues. ‘Train’ is losing the meaning of things that represent the new era because of the social product was foregrounding in the background. High-speed bus and highway construction is causing the anger and yichon phenomenon of rural poverty, by separating the villages artificially weakened the sense of community. ‘Cars’ was the symbol of symbols containing the difference between being angry and typing at the same time revealing social status. Next to the human tendency to transform into goods through urban space in a residential space, and accept it for granted it could capture a contemporary lifestyle. Such as apartments were projected figure of urban development policy reveals the inequality of wealth and differentiation of the space had been concealed, the residence a means of wealth here, as well as the recognition that prevailing logic of contemporary capitalist speculation of Realtors and life . After all, the various means of transportation that connects rural, urban, and rural and urban space as a medium that reveals the pathological manifestation of capitalist society, it was revealed changes in the appearance and lifestyle of contemporary life. And here instance, the time aware of all the target without forgetting the essence in the exchange value, that is, was able to come up with that logic it is inherent in capitalism.
