국문 초록

자(他者)는 현대 문명 사회에서 소외된 대상이나 가치를 의미한다. 구체적으로 자연, 여성, 유색인, 동성애자와 같은 사회적 소수자(minority)나, 감정, 무의식, 광기, 상상 등과 같은 인간 정신의 한 측면을 포괄한다. 시인 추방론을 주장한 플라톤의 시각에서 보면 시인도 타자에 속한다. 이들은 서구의 형이상학적 전통이나 이성중심주의(ego-centrism)에서 소외되었지만 인간의 삶에서 반드시 필요한 존재들이다. 한국 현대시에서 타자는 다양한 양상으로 등장한다. 박진성 시의 광기, 최승자 시의 우울, 김경미 시의 여성성, 정현종 시의 자연, 김지하 시의 몸, 김선우 시의 성적 욕망 등은 1990년대 이후의 한국시를 풍요롭게 한 타자들이다. 이외에도 채호기 시의 게이, 이연주 시의 매음녀, 김신용 시의 도시빈민, 황병승 시의 트랜스젠더 등도 주목해야 할 타자들이다. 타자를 환대하는 시인들은 타자의 부활을 통해 세상을 더 풍요롭게 더 아름답게 만들려고 한다. 타자의 시들은 소수자로서의 타자가 지닌 생산적 가치를 발견하여 그것을 삶의 영역으로 수용하고자 한다. 타자의 시들은 자아의 이기적 본성을 벗어버리고 타자를 향한 배려와 사랑, 존중과 공존의 마음을 지향한다. 한국 현대시는 타자의 발견으로 시의 영역을 확장했을 뿐만 아니라 윤리적 건강성도 확보했다.

영문 초록

The terms "the Other" or "Otherness" means who and what is alien and isolated from the norm or from identity in the modern civilized society. More specifically, it includes social minorities such as women, the colored, and homosexuals, as well as the human immaterial aspects such as emotion, unconsciousness, insanity, and imagination. From the perspective of Plato, who argues that a poet should be exiled from the Republic, poets belong to "the Other". They have been isolated from western societies that emphasized on metaphysical philosophy or ego-centrism. In modern poetry of South Korea, "Otherness" are revealed in various literary conditions. In particular, poems written in 1990's and onwards explore "Otherness." Park Jinseong's examines insanity, Choi Seongja's, melancholy, Kim Kyeongmi's, femininity, Kim Jiha's, physical body, and Kim Seonwu's, sexual desire. In addition, Some poets such as Chehogi, Lee Yeonju, Kim Shinyong, and Hwang Byeongseong explore socially underprivileged classes such as homosexuals, prostitutes, city slum residents, and trans-gender people respectively. Poets who shows interests in Otherness want to tell that the world can be more diverse, where individuals pursue their true self. Those poets advocate that a society should accommodate the minorities who exist as "the Other" because revelations of the Otherness in a society eventually expand the horizon of human lives. These poems expose an selfish human nature, and want to find out how "the Other" can co-exist in a society. That is, the modern poems of South Korea that explore the Otherness expand the horizon of Korean poems and persue moral and ethical balance.
