보충법에 대하여

국문 초록

본고에서는 '나'와 '우리'라는 어형을 중심으로 보충법의 개념, 보충법의 대상, 보충법이 실현되는 층위 및 그 층위 사이의 위계 문제 등 보충법과 관련되는 다양한 측면을 검토하였다. 검토의 결과를 정리하면 다음과 같다. (1) 보충법은 패러다임상의 빈칸을 어원적 관련성이 없는 요소가 보충하는 현상이다. (2) 보충법의 대상은 보충되는 요소와 보충하는 요소로 나누어 볼 수 있으며, 보충되는 요소와 보충하는 요소는 등가의 문법적 위상을 가진다. (3) 보충법은 주로 형태소 층위에서 형태소의 이형태 교체로 실현되지만 어휘소 층위에서 어휘소의 어형교체로 실현되기도 한다. (4) 형태소 층위에서의 보충법적 교체가 먼저 실현된 이후에 어휘소 층위에서의 보충법적 교체가 실현된다.

영문 초록

The purpose of this study is to refine the concept of suppletion and to discuss the various aspects of suppletion including the object and the tiers of suppletion. The discussion also includes the hierarchy of the tiers of suppletion. The word form 'na' and 'uri' is employed as a example for the convenience of discussion. The discussion leads us to following conclusion: First, the suppletion is a phenomenon that the etymologically unrelated element supplements an accidental gap in a paradigm. Second, the object of suppletion is comprised of two elements, supplementary and supplemented elements, and they have equal status in the viewpoint of grammatical category. Third, there are two types of suppletion. The one is realized as the alternation of allomorph in the tier of morpheme. The other is realised as the alternation of word form in the tier of lexeme. Finally, this study confirms that the suppletive alternation in the tier of morpheme is implemented in advance of the suppletive alternation in the tier of lexeme.
