국문 초록

임한주는 고난과 격동의 근현대시기에 전통을 고수하며 살아간 塘門 유학자의 일원이자, 한문학의 계승자였다. 임한주의 한시는 『笆邊集』과 『惺軒先生文集』에 남아 있는데, 선별하여 수록한 『惺軒先生文集』보다 1668수나 되는 시를 수록한 『笆邊集』이 그의 문학적 진면목을 보여준다. 그가 겪은 암울한 시대로 인하여 문학의 유희적 요소인 음풍농월은 절제가 요구되고 심미적 추구도 제한이 가해질 수밖에 없었다. 이런 의식이 편집에 반영되어 출간된 것이 『惺軒先生文集』이다. 하지만 선별된 작품을 통해 당대 유림들의 문학에 대한 사유양상을 살펴 볼 수 있다는 점에서 『惺軒先生文集』의 가치도 적지 않다. 임한주의 시는 일상의 기록이었다. 일상 속에서 아름다운 자연을 포착하거나 자신의 내면을 자연에 투영하기도 하였으며, 살아가면서 마주치는 다양한 만남, 뜻을 이루지 못한 인생에 대한 자성과 비탄의 마음을 적었다. 또한 그는 위기의 시대에 세상을 외면하지 않고 그 안에 뛰어들어 직접 해결하려 들었던 실천적 지식인이었다. 그가 지녔던 憂時憫俗의 고민과 衛道의 정신은 시에 그대로 투영되어 죽는 날까지도 변함이 없었다. 그러하기에 임한주의 문학은 삶과 유리된 것이 아니라 그 삶 자체였다. 총체적으로 표현하면, 임한주의 한시는 격동의 근대를 살아간 지식인의 좌절과 슬픔, 전통 수호의 정신, 잘못된 현실을 극복하려는 의지 등을 담은 철저한 삶의 문학이다. 또한 동시대의 한글 문학에 뒤지지 않는 문학적 소명을 수행하였다.

영문 초록

Im, Han-ju was a member of dangmun(塘門) Confucian scholars who lived by sticking to the tradition in modern and contemporary period of hardship and turbulence and successor of Chinese classics. Sino-Korean poetry of Im, Han-ju is in 『Pabyunjib(笆邊集)』 and 『Sunghunsunsaengmunjib(惺軒先生文集)』 and 『Pabyunjib(笆邊集)』 recorded by 1668 works showed the true characteristics than 『Sunghunsunsaengmunjib(惺軒先生文集)』 recorded after selection. Gloomy period limited moderation and aesthetic pursuing for eumpungnongwal, an amusing factor of literature, and 『Sunghunsunsaengmunjib(惺軒先生文集)』 was established by reflecting the awareness. However, thinking tendency of Confusian scholars of the period can be examined by selected work, so there is lots of values in 『Sunghunsunsaengmunjib(惺軒先生文集)』. Im, Han-ju's poem was the record of daily life. He seized beauty nature in daily life or reflected his inside to the nature. And, he wrote various meetings encountered during the life and self-reflection and anguish for the life which doesn't achieve the purposes. In addition, he was a practical intellectual who intended to solve the world of crisis without disregarding it during the period of crisis. His worries about usiminsok(憂時憫俗) and spirit of wido(衛道) were reflected to the poem as they were, so they are not changed until his death. Therefore, literature of Im, Han-ju was the life, not aparts from the life. Generally speaking, sino-Korean poem of Im, Han-ju is the literature of thorough life including frustration and sadness of intellectuals who lived in modern times of turbulence, spirit of tradition protection, will to endure incorrect realities, etc. Also, his works performed literary mission which is not less than Korean literature of the same period.
