배경변수의 통제에 따른 학교별 향상도의 변동

국문 초록

본 연구는 현재 학교공시에서 활용되는 향상도의 개선방안을 탐색하는 연구로서, 학교향상도를 추정하는데 있어서 학생 및 학교배경을 통제하는 방안을 고려하였다. 이를 위하여 중학교 2학년을 대상으로 실시된 TIMSS 2011의 성취도 자료 및 설문 자료와 동일 학생들이 중학교 3학년에 치른 국가수준학업성취도평가 결과를 연계하여 학생 및 학교수준의 배경변수를 학교향상도 산출모형에 포함시키는 경우와 현행 향상도 산출방식의 결과를 비교하였다. 먼저 사전성취도 이외의 변수를 추가적으로 투입한 부가가치모형을 적용한 결과, 학생수준에서는 사교육시간과 학생성별이 학교수준에서는 학교성별이 사후성취도와 유의미한 관계가 있었다. 다른 변수를 추가적으로 투입한 모형을 적용한 결과 산출된 향상도 지수간의 상관은 .9이상의 안정적인 상관을 보였으나, 학교유형변수가 투입된 경우, 서열의 변동이 상대적으로 큰 것으로 나타났다. 특히 지역규모에 있어서는 읍면지역, 학교성별 중에서는 여학교, 그리고 사립학교의 순위변동이 높은 편이었다. 이를 바탕으로 자료의 수집 및 활용에 대한 사회적 허용범위를 고려하여 어떤 변수를 수집하고 활용할지 추가적인 논의가 수행될 필요가 있다고 제언하였다.

영문 초록

This study aims to explore alternative ways of estimating the school value-added under the current School Information Posting System by proposing new scheme for controlling the student and school background. For this purpose, the performance data and questionnaire data of TIMSS 2011 and data from the NAEA 2012 (National Assessment of Educational Achievement) were utilized. The results of alternative models estimating school value-added, which control for the students and school level of background variables, were compared to the results of the current value-added model which controls for pretest only. First, the results of applying the alternative value-added models, which further controlled for other variables show that tutoring time, student gender, and school gender were significantly related to posttest achievement. In addition, the correlation between the results from alternative value-added models, which includes student and school variables, and the result from the current model is shown a stable relationship .9 or above. However, when types of school was controlled for, there was some variation among the results. In particular, schools in rural areas, girls' schools, and private schools showed higher ranking fluctuations in terms of school value-added. From the findings, it is recommended that we should discuss on which variables should further be collected and utilized for estimating school value-added with the consideration of a social tolerance for use with the collection of data.
