영문 초록

Chung-Ju is located at the central part of Korean peninsula. This city was a strategic place of southward expansion of Koguryo. Therefore Chungju area was scramble point among rival three kingdom(Koguryo, Baekje and Shilla) Koguryo established this city as second capital named Kuk-Won-Kyong, therfore we can find Koguryo’s relics and customs including Gung-Won Koguryo monument and Taek-kyon, a Kind of Korean wrestling. Specially, King Jang-Su(413～491) erected a stone monument named Jang-Won-Bee that memorialised the expansion of Koguryo. In this monument, Koguryo’s King offered the Koguryo’s clothings for subordination of Shilla. In Chungju, we can see some Koguryo’s cultural remains, including Stone Buddda image. Therefore Chungju was only place to understand the Koguryo’s culture in South Korea. This is the reason that Changju is a center of the Taek-Kyon(martial art). In fact, Chung-ju was an advanced base for southward moving Koguryo’s culture. After Koguryo, Chung-ju became the northward matching key spot by Shilla.
