황석영 소설에 나타난 여성이주와 혼종 인식의 문제

국문 초록

본 연구는 황석영의 〈심청, 연꽃의 길〉을 중심으로 여성이주의 특성, 인종과 혼종 인식의 문제 등을 검토하는 데 목적이 있다. 이주의 여성화로 인해 심청의 이동은 성적 노동에 포획된 일차원성을 띠며, 그녀는 귀환을 열망하지 않는다. 이름, 의복, 음식 등에 대한 심청의 선택적 부정은 동아시아와 서양을 ‘우리’와 ‘그들’로 대립시키는 인종전략이다. 이런 인종전략과 맥락을 같이 하면서 〈심청, 연꽃의 길〉은 동아시아 남녀가 서구 제국주의의 침탈을 같은 방식으로 경험한다고 가정하는데, 이 가정은 동아시아 근본주의에 이른다. 이와 연관되어, ‘피진 잉글리시’는 ‘엉터리’로 인식되며, 이런 부정적 인식은 언어적 서열을 강요하는 제국주의 시선과 내적으로 연관될 수 있다. 서양문화와의 혼종에 배타적이고 동아시아혼종에 관용적이지만, 이것이 세계체제에 대한 문명적 대안이 될 근거는 충분하지 않다.

영문 초록

The aim of the present study is to investigate the characteristics of female migrant and the recognitions of race and hybridity in Hwang Seok-young’s 『Simchung, the road of a lotus』. The results can be summarized as follows. Due to the feminization of migration, Simchung’s displacement is appeared to be the one-dimension captured by sexual work, and Simchung is not eager to return to home. Simchung's optional negative toward name, clothes, and food is a race strategy which distinguishes Eastern Asia as ‘we’ and the West as ‘they’. In the context of this race strategy, 『Simchung, the road of a lotus』 postulates that the East Asian men and women experience the exploits of Western imperialism in the same way, and this postulation is based on Eastern essentialism. Regarding this issue, Pidgin English is perceived to be wrong, and this negative perception can be internally related to the imperial gaze that forces the linguistic hierarchy. Although this novel is exclusive to the hybridity with the Western culture and tolerant toward East Asian hybridity, there is no clear evidence that such position would be a civilizational alternative to the global system.
