〈쇼져영츈전〉을 둘러싼 의혹과 향후 논의 방향

국문 초록

이 글에서는 〈소저영춘전〉을 둘러싼 몇 가지 의혹들을 정밀하게 검토한 후 이를 토대로 이 작품에 대한 새로운 논의 방향을 모색하였다. 〈소저영춘전〉은 여성영웅소설의 외피를 쓰고 있으면서 실질적으로는 애정소설의 성향을 농후하게 지니고 있다. 본고에서는 이 작품을 특정 작가의 독창적인 창작물이 아닌, 〈김희경전〉의 파생작으로 추정하였다. 〈소저영춘전〉과 〈김희경전〉의 유사성은 작품의 핵심 구조와 특정 모티프에서 확인된다. 그리고 이러한 유사성이 다른 여성영웅소설에는 나타나지 않으므로 두 작품은 직접적인 영향관계에 놓여 있음이 분명하다. 〈김희경전〉은 18세기 말에서 20세기 초까지 다양한 이본을 낳으며 활발히 읽혀진 반면, 〈소저영춘전〉은 19세기 후반에 필사된 이본이 유일하다. 이를 감안할 때 〈소저영춘전〉은 독창적인 작품이 아니라 이미 전승되던 〈김희경전〉의 한 파생작으로 보는 관점이 타당하다. 〈소저영춘전〉은 여성영웅소설을 대표할 수 있는 〈김희경전〉의 자장을 확인하는데 소중한 자료가 될 수 있다. 따라서 앞으로는 〈쇼져영츈전〉을 〈김희경전〉의 수용사라는 거시적인 틀에서 조망할 필요가 있다. 그래야만 그동안 간과해왔던 〈김희경전〉의 소설사적 위상을 온전히 드러낼 수 있다.

영문 초록

This study reviews several suspicions on the 〈Sojeo-Youngchoonjeon〉, and discusses new direction of discussion based on the result. The 〈Sojeo-Youngchoonjeon〉 is a work that reveals appearance of female heroic novel and at the same time reveals characteristics of romantic fiction, so called ‘a work in conversion of genre’. The similarities between the 〈Sojeo-Youngchoonjeon〉 and the 〈Kimheegyeongjeon〉 are being observed through the core structure and particular motif of the works. However, since such similarities cannot be observed from other female heroic novels, we can say these two works have direct influential relationship. The 〈Kimheegyeongjeon〉 and various copies of different editions were read by many people from the late 18th century to the early 20th century, on the other hand, only one single edition of the 〈Sojeo-Youngchoonjeon〉 was handed down. From this, we can infer that the 〈Sojeo-Youngchoonjeon〉 is a work derived from the 〈Kimheegyeongjeon〉. The 〈Sojeo-Youngchoonjeon〉 could be a precious source to see the influence of the 〈Kimheegyeongjeon〉 which can represent for female heroic novel. Therefore, it is necessary to see the 〈Sojeo-Youngchoonjeon〉 as a construction process of the 〈Kimheegyeongjeon〉 from the macro view so that the status of the 〈Kimheegyeongjeon〉 in literature history which has been neglected so far can be raised.
