강홍립에 대한 문학적 형상화 양상 연구

국문 초록

이 글의 관심은 역사적 실존인물인 강홍립이 이민환의 〈책중일록〉과 권칙의 〈강로전〉에서 어떻게 문학적으로 형상화되었는가에 있다. 〈책중일록〉에서 강홍립은 대내외적인 불리한 상황에도 불구하고 병사를 잘 이끌고자 노력한 인물이며 동시에 패배한 뒤에도 체면과 염치를 지키며 화의를 택한 인물이었다. 이에 반해 〈강로전〉에서 그리는 강홍립은 광해군의 밀지를 핑계 삼아서 병사들을 사지로 몰아넣은 교활한 책략가에 비굴하게도 오랑캐에게 무릎을 꿇은 항적이었다. 후금에서의 포로생활 중의 행적에 대해서도 두 작품은 다르게 이야기 하고 있다. 〈책중일록〉의 강홍립은 나라의 이익을 위해 자신의 능력을 발휘한 외교사절이었는데 반해 〈강로전〉에서 강홍립은 부귀영화를 위해 나라를 판 변절자로 그려진다. 이러한 전혀 다른 두 모습의 강홍립이 그려진 것은 바로 두 작가의 입장차이 때문이다. 오랑캐에 항복한 인물로 관직 생활에 제대로 나아갈 수 없었던 이민환은 자신들은 항복한 것이 아니라 화의한 것이며 절개를 지켰다고 그 실상을 드러내고자 했다. 그리하여 자신들을 대변할 수 있는 인물인 원수 강홍립을 내세웠던 것이고 효과적인 서술을 위해 사실지향적인 일록의 형태를 통해 객관적인 태도를 유지하고자 했다. 권칙은 도망친 자로서의 자신의 도덕적 위상을 위해 그와 반대되는 포로가 된 장수들을 대표하는 강홍립을 비난할 필요가 있었다. 더구나 당시의 시대적 분위기는 강홍립에 대해 부정적이었다. 결국 권칙은 포폄의 의도를 명확히 하여 강홍립을 부정적으로 그려내고 평가하기 위해 전을 창작했던 것이다. 실재했던 역사가 어떻게 작가 혹은 시대의 이념에 따라 재구성되어 문학으로 탄생하는가, 그 생생한 모습을 〈책중일록〉과 〈강로전〉은 보여주고 있다.

영문 초록

This study discusses the literary imagery of Kang Honglib, an existential person from history depicted in 〈Chaekjoong-illok〉 by Lee Minhwan and 〈Kanglo-jeon〉 by Kwon Chik. In 〈Chaekjoong-illok〉, he was depicted as an experience person who tried to arrange his troop despite the unfavorable situations, and at the same time, who chose to negotiate for peace without losing face after defeat. Unlikely, In 〈Kanglo-jeon〉, he was depicted as a sneaky tactician who drove his men into death by a reason of secret orders from Gwanghaegun and a obsequious person who kneeled down to barbarians. Also two books describe differently of the time he was captived in Hukeum. In 〈Chaekjoong-illok〉, he was a diplomatic envoy who used his ability for the sake of country, on the other hand, 〈Kanglo-jeon〉 depicted his as an apostate who betrayed his country for his own wealth and honor. Such opposed descriptions on one person is because of the different points of view of the authors. Lee Minhwan hardly entered government service because he was one of the people who surrendered to barbarians thus he wanted to explain that they are not surrenders but negotiated for peace and kept their loyalty through the 〈Chaekjoong-illok〉. So, he supported Kang Honglib who can represent his position, and tried to show subjective attitude through the writing form of daily record for greater effect. Besides, the social atmosphere in that era was against Kang. Honglib As a result, Chik Kwon wrote the 〈Kanglo-jeon〉 to draw negative portrait of Kang Honglib with an intention of criticism. The 〈Chaekjoong-illok〉 and the 〈Kanglo-jeon〉 shows how the real history can be restructured and rewritten by the ideology of author or the era.
