국문 초록

  본고에서는 복잡하고 난해한 ‘숙수념’이라는 공간을 탐색하기 위해 그것과 성격이 유사한 또 다른 공간, 즉 문장의 중원에 주목하였다. 문장의 중원은 홍길주가 오랜 사유와 긴 문학 여정을 통해 다다른 가상의 공간으로, 구조적인 측면에서 ‘숙수념’과 닮아있어 『숙수념』 연구의 좋은 길잡이가 될 수 있다. 뿐만 아니라 문학의 궁극적 지향점을 내포하고 있어서 홍길주의 문학세계를 조명할 때에도 힘을 발휘할 수 있다.
  다만 본고에서는 문장중원을 통해 홍길주의 공간적 상상력의 실체를 밝혀 향후 『숙수념』 연구의 발판을 마련하고자 하는 만큼, 문장중원의 공간적 특수성을 밝히는 데 초점을 맞추었다. 그 결과 문장중원에 투영된 공간적 상상력의 근원을 다음과 같이 네 가지로 추출할 수 있었다. 첫째, 문장중원은 깨달음을 통해서만 접근이 가능하고 회의를 통해서 끊임없이 검증되는 공간이다. 둘째, 차이와 동일성이 공존하는 공간이다. 셋째, 정해진 도구와 정해진 장소와 정해진 해석이 없는 공간이다. 넷째, 대립의 소통을 통해 지속적으로 확장되는 공간이다.
  이상 제시한 네 가지 특징은 문장중원을 넘어 ‘숙수념’이라는 공간을 지탱하고 유지하는 필수적인 요소가 되는 만큼, 『숙수념』을 연구함에 있어서 방향을 잃지 않게 하는 나침반이 될 수 있을 것이다. 뿐만 아니라 홍길주의 개성적 문학을 탄생시킨 중요한 질료가 되는 만큼, 향후 문학 연구에 있어서도 많은 도움을 줄 수 있을 것이다.

영문 초록

  In order to explore into a complicated and unintelligible space called ‘Suksunyeom(孰遂念)" which was originally devised by Hanghae Gil-ju Hong(沆瀣洪吉周), this study focused upon Munjang Jungwon(文章中原, literary center field), another space with similar nature as Suksunyeom.
  The literary center field or Mungjang Jungwon was a virtual space which Hong reached through many years of speculations and long literary journey, and also has a potential of good guiding model for our contemporary studies on ‘Suksunyeom", because it resembles Suksunyeom in structural aspects. Furthermore, his literary center field encompasses certain ultimate destination of literature, so it may have its own influences upon our contemporary academic efforts to illuminate his literary world.
  However, as long as the purpose of this study is to examine Munjang Jungwon and thereby uncover the reality of Hong"s spatial imagination to prepare a foothold for follow-up studies on ‘Suksunyeom", this study focused on making clear spatial distinctiveness of Munjang Jungwon. As a result, this study could deduce four major sources of Hong"s spatial imagination projected into Munjang Jungwon. That is, it was found that Munjang Jungwon(literary center field) is a space accessible only by realization, a space requiring ceaseless verification through skepticism, a space where differences go together with identicalness, a space without any certain tool, location or interpretation, and a space expandable ever through mutual communications between opposed entities.
  Summing up, it is concluded that these four major sources of Hong"s spatial imagination form the pivotal framework that supports and maintains his space of ‘Suksunyeom" beyond his literary center field.
