영문 초록

This paper intended to review writer’s consciousness and narrative structure of by Choi Chan-shik, which few studies have been made so far. inheriting the characteristics of the novels to depict chasing after runaway slaves shows excellence of the writer’s creativeness to a larger degree. The novels to describe chasing after runaway slaves are originated from fairy-tales of chasing after runaway slaves in the form of ‘avenge stories’ are divided into roughly two types; one includes , , , and ; the other develops into and . Among them, adopts narrative structure of for the latter half, while created story by Choi Chan-shik being placed in the first half. The work emphasizes the ability of slaves as a main character to face with reality by showing their efforts to achieve freedom in the most outstanding manner. In this regard, it can be said that this novel represents the perfection of the narratives of slaves. However, fresh shock of to conservativeness of the existing narratives of slaves is replaced with tiresome conservativeness in the end. follows the tradition of the previous novels at the latter half too much to maintain the consciousness of problem in the beginning to the end, ending up with a popular conclusion.
