은유분석을 통해 본 예비유아교사의 바깥놀이에 대한 인식

국문 초록

본 연구는 은유분석을 통해 본 바깥놀이에 대한 예비유아교사의 인식을 밝히는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 이를 위해 P시와 G시 지역에 소재한 전문대학 유아교육과에 재학중인 예비유아교사 134명을 대상으로 은유표현과 표현의 이유를 묻는 질문지를 통해 응답을 수집하여 범주화하였고, 범주에 따른 빈도와 백분율을 산출하였다. 연구결과, 바깥놀이에 대한 예비유아교사의 은유표현은 총 94개의 표현, 8개의 범주로 분류되었고, ‘성장의 힘이 되는 바깥놀이’, ‘감정의 원천이 되는 바깥놀이’, ‘놀이의 터가 되는 바깥놀이’의 3가지로 범주화되었다. 은유표현을 분석한 결과는 첫째, 예비유아교사들은 바깥놀이를 성장과 배움의 원동력이 되고, 영유아기에는 필수적인 과정인 것으로 인식하였다. 둘째, 예비유아교사들은 영유아들에게 있어 바깥놀이가 행복과 즐거움, 자유와 같은 긍정적인 감정의 원천이 되는 것으로 인식하고 있었다. 셋째, 예비유아교사들은 바깥놀이가 영유아들에게 호기심과 창의력을 발산하고, 자연 속에서 끝없이 탐구하며, 보물같은 터전을 마련 해주어 서로 소통하는 놀이의 터가 되는 것으로 인식하고 있었다. 예비유아교사들은 바깥놀이를 영유아가 올바르게 성장하는 힘이 됨과 동시에, 감정의 원천이며, 가능성의 존재로 자라날 수 있는 공간으로 인식하고 있음을 확인하였다. 또한, 예비유아교사들의 바깥놀이에 대한 은유표현과 그 이유를 분석함으로써 과거 안전 관리자와 관찰자의 역할이었던 교사의 역할에서 영유아들의 다양한 경험과 감정, 놀이를 지원하는 역할로 인식이 변하고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 결과적으로 바깥놀이에 대한 은유분석을 통해, 예비유아교사에게 있어서 바깥놀이에 대한 인식이 어떠한지와 바깥놀이가 차지하는 중요성과 가치를 확인하고, 이를 예비유아교사를 양성하는 교육과정에 적용하는 기초자료로 제공할 수 있다는 점에서 의의가 있다.

영문 초록

This study aims to explore pre-service early childhood teachers' perceptions of outdoor play through metaphor analysis. To achieve this, responses were collected from 134 pre-service early childhood teachers enrolled in early childhood education programs at community colleges located in P City and G City. Participants were asked to express metaphors related to outdoor play and provide reasons for their expressions. The collected responses were categorized, and the frequency and percentage of each category were calculated. The results revealed that the metaphors for outdoor play expressed by pre-service early childhood teachers were classified into a total of 94 expressions and 8 categories, which were further grouped into three overarching themes: “Outdoor play as a source of growth,” “Outdoor play as a source of emotions,” and “Outdoor play as a playground for exploration.” The analysis of metaphorical expressions yielded the following findings. First, pre-service early childhood teachers perceived outdoor play as a driving force for growth and learning, recognizing it as an essential process in early childhood. Second, they viewed outdoor play as a source of positive emotions such as happiness, joy, and freedom for young children. Third, they recognized outdoor play as a space where young children could express curiosity and creativity, engage in endless exploration in nature, and establish a valuable environment for interaction and communication. It was confirmed that pre-service early childhood teachers perceive outdoor play as not only a crucial factor in children's proper growth but also as a fundamental source of emotions and a space where children can develop their potential. Additionally, analyzing their metaphorical expressions and the reasoning behind them revealed a shift in the role of teachers— from merely being safety managers and observers in the past to actively supporting children's diverse experiences, emotions, and play. Ultimately, this study highlights the perceptions of pre-service early childhood teachers regarding outdoor play and underscores its significance and value. The findings can serve as foundational data for incorporating outdoor play into teacher training programs, contributing to the effective preparation of future early childhood educators.
