그림책을 활용한 수학․과학 활동에 관한 메타분석

국문 초록

유아교육 분야에서 그동안 통합적 교육 접근의 한 방향으로 활용되어온 그림책은 유아의 언어, 인지, 정서, 사회성 발달에 효과적인 것으로 논의되어 왔다. 본 연구는 그림책 활용이 수학과학 활동과 연계되었을 때 어느 정도의 효과가 있는지를 메타분석 방법으로 확인하였다. 최근 10년 국내에서 발행된 연구논문을 수집, 그림책을 활용한 수학과학 활동에 초점을 맞추어 학위논문 13편, 학술논문 24편을 포함 총 37편을 중심으로 랜덤효과모형을 적용하여 효과크기를 산출하였다. 출판편향을 고려하여 보정한 결과 그림책을 활용한 수학과학 활동의 효과크기는 1.30으로 Cohen의 효과크기 기준 상당히 큰 효과크기를 나타내었다. 그림책을 활용한 활동 유형에 따른 조절 효과와 종속변인에 따른 효과 크기가 유의한 차이를 보인 한편 그림책 활용의 활동 횟수나 기간, 활용 그림책 개수, 연구대상의 연령은 유의한 조절효과를 보이지 않았다. 연구의 결과를 바탕으로 향후 그림책을 활용한 수학과학 활동의 효과가 가지는 의의와 교육방향, 기대효과에 대해 제언하였다.

영문 초록

In the area of early childhood education, the integration approach has suggested the usage of picture book in order for the children’s cognitive, linguistic, social and emotional development. As an extension, the purpose of this study was to investigate the effects on the science and mathematics activities with the usage of picture book more systematically and synthetically. In this study, we searched articles published from 2009 to 2019, during ten years in South Korea. Total 37 articles including 13 dissertation theses and 24 journal articles were reviewed for the analysis. Random effect model was applied to calculate the effect size. In considering the publication bias, the imputed effect size was appeared as 1.30 coming from the effect on the use of picture book focusing on the science and mathematics activities. According to the Cohen’s interpretation, such an effect size is considered as a large effect. Also, this study revealed the significant differences from the moderators including the type of activities in the usage of picture book, as well as the dependent variables. Moderating effect coming from other variables such as the age, the frequency of activities, and the duration of activities were not revealed significantly. Finally, this study discussed the implications on the value of picture book usage for the science and mathematics activities and future educational directions.
