국문 초록

김소월을 문학사적으로 평가하는 데 있어서 「산유화」는 중요성을 지니는 작품이다. 이 논문의 출발점은 작품 「산유화」의 구성 요소와 「산유화」의 연구사를 검토하고 보다 종합적인 시각에서 「산유화」를 이해하는 틀을 마련하는 것이다. 그리고 김소월 시 전체에 기대어 「산유화」에 내재한 자연관을 규명하는 것이 이 작품의 목표이다. 이 글에서 문제 제기한 것은 「산유화」가 ‘자연과의 거리’에 기초한 근대적인 작품이라는 해석이 시의 일부분만을 도드라지게 한 결과일 수 있다는 사실이다. 특히 다수의 연구는 시적 화자와 자연 사이의 거리라는 측면만을 주목하여 작품의 제목·운율·시제 등의 요소를 부차적인 것으로 다루거나 아예 다루지 않았다. 하지만 시 전반의 요소를 종합한다면 시적 화자는 자연과 거리를 두고 있지 않다는 해석 또한 가능할 수 있다. 김소월 시 전반에 비추어볼 때 시적 화자는 도시에는 거리를 두고 자연을 가까이 하려는 태도가 두드러진다. 특히 김소월의 시에서 ‘산’은 죽은 이와 영적 교감을 나누거나 그러한 교감을 기원하는 장소로 표상되는데, 그 이유는 그의 시 세계의 기저에 깔린 세계관이 샤머니즘에 기초하기 때문인 것으로 판단된다. 졸고는 기존 해석들이 문학사적 맥락 속에서 중요한 의미를 지닌다는 사실을 받아들이면서도 작품이 담고 있는 다양한 층위를 보다 폭넓게 살펴볼 필요가 있음을 제안하는 바이다. 이를 통해 김소월 시를 바라보는 종합적 시각을 얻을 수 있기를 기대한다.

영문 초록

“San-Yu-Hwa” holds significant importance in the literary evaluation of Kim Sowol. This study begins by examining the structural elements of “San-Yu-Hwa” and reviewing its research history to establish a more comprehensive framework for understanding the poem. Furthermore, the goal of this paper is to elucidate the perception of nature embedded in “San-Yu-Hwa” by considering it within the broader context of Kim Sowol’s poetry. This study raises the issue that the prevalent interpretation of “San-Yu-Hwa” as a modern work based on ‘distance from nature’ may have resulted from an overemphasis on only certain aspects of the poem. Many previous studies have primarily focused on the distance between the poetic speaker and nature, treating elements such as the title, rhythm, and tense as secondary or disregarding them entirely. However, when considering the poem as a whole, an alternative interpretation is possible: the poetic speaker may not, in fact, maintain a distance from nature. In the broader context of Kim Sowol’s poetry, the poetic speaker tends to distance themselves from the city while seeking closeness to nature. In particular, ‘mountains’ in Kim Sowol’s poetry often serve as spaces for spiritual communion with the deceased or as sites of such longing. This can be attributed to the underlying worldview of his poetry, which is rooted in shamanism. While acknowledging the literary-historical significance of existing interpretations, this study argues for a broader exploration of the poem’s multiple layers of meaning. Through this approach, it aims to provide a more comprehensive perspective on Kim Sowol’s poetry.
