국문 초록

본고는 현재 전해지는 38수의 당대 ‘폭포시’를 연구한 것이다. 폭포는 경이로운 자연 경관으로, 많은 시인들에게 영감을 주었다. 지역적 특성에 따라 폭포시는 22개의 폭포가 있는 여산을 주요 소재로 삼았다. 이백의 여산 폭포시는 폭포를 하늘과 땅을 잇는 상징적 연결 고리로 해석하여 후대 시인들에게 기준을 제시했다. 장구령의 폭포시는 경외와 성찰을 반영했고, 위응물은 자연주의적 어조를 도입했으며, 고황은 이별의 주제를 결합하여 장르의 표현 범위를 확장했다. 본고는 당대 폭포시의 다양한 미학적 접근을 살펴봄으로써 당시에 이해를 넓히는 데 기여하고자 한다.

영문 초록

Waterfalls, as awe-inspiring natural features, have captivated poets throughout history. In the Tang Dynasty, at least 38 poems focused on waterfalls, yet research on these works remains limited. This study explores Tang Dynasty waterfall poetry, defining a “waterfall poem” as one that includes the term “waterfall” in its title and centers on the subject within its verses. Due to unique regional characteristics, these poems are unevenly distributed, with Mount Lu—a site with 22 waterfalls—being a frequent focal point. Li Bai, a celebrated Tang poet, made significant contributions to this genre, especially with his two poems titled Gazing at a Waterfall on Mount Lu. These works blend vivid physical descriptions with a symbolic interpretation of the waterfall as a link between heaven and earth, setting a standard for future poets. While Zhang Jiuling was influenced by Li Bai, his poems reflect wonder and introspection, while Wei Yingwu introduced a naturalistic tone, and Gu Kuang wove in themes of farewell, expanding the genre’s expressive scope. By examining these diverse aesthetic approaches, this study highlights the development of waterfall poetry as a unique genre within Tang poetry, contributing to a broader understanding of Tang literary aesthetics.
